Spring market in the listed Botanical Garden — May 2–3, 2026, over 100 exhibitors, free admission
The traditional Botanical Garden and Flower Market has been the largest spring market in the Bergisches Land region for years. On the first May weekend — Saturday May 2, 2026, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sunday May 3, 2026, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. — over 100 exhibitors will transform the listed Botanical Garden at Vogelsang 2a into a blooming marketplace. The concept combines plant sales, garden art, arts and crafts, and culinary offerings in the special setting of a historic show garden.
The plant market itself is the centerpiece: perennials, cottage garden classics, herbs, succulents, carnivorous plants, and rare tomato plant varieties. Specialized nurseries from the Bergisches Land, Rhineland, and Lower Rhine regions will present assortments rarely found in regular garden centers. The focus is on insect-friendly plants and old cultivated varieties.
In addition to the plant stalls, there is a diverse range of arts and crafts:
A musical program will accompany the market on both days:
A traditional grand garden raffle supports the preservation of the Botanical Garden. For families, there is a historic carousel, children's games, and creative hands-on activities. Food stalls will provide culinary catering with bratwurst, grilled specialties, and coffee and cake stations — all proceeds go to the preservation of the listed garden.
The Botanical Garden Solingen at Vogelsang is a volunteer-run facility from the 1960s focusing on the plant world of the Bergisches Land, cottage gardens, and historic cultivated plants. With the annual Garden and Flower Market, the association finances the majority of its operating costs. Solingen — the "Klingenstadt" (City of Blades) in the Bergisches Land — is a worthwhile excursion destination with the Botanical Garden, the Müngstener Brücken Park, and Schloss Burg.
The 2026 edition, with over 100 exhibitors, is the largest and most diverse in the market's history to date. Focus areas: art from natural products, carnivorous plants, rare tomato varieties, regional honeys, and cottage garden perennials.
Live bands will accompany market operations on both days. The traditional grand garden raffle once again supports the volunteer-run garden.
Free admission. Donations are expressly requested and go towards the preservation of the Botanical Garden. Raffle tickets from approx. €1. Prices at exhibitor stands are individual.
By bus: Line 695 from Solingen Hauptbahnhof (Mitte) to stop "Vogelsang", then a 2-minute walk. By car: A3 exit Solingen, follow signs for Botanischer Garten / Vogelsang. Parking available in the vicinity, can be crowded on market days — arriving early is recommended.
Saturday, May 2, 2026: 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026: 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Free admission. Donations for the preservation of the Botanical Garden are expressly requested and finance the ongoing operation. The grand garden raffle supports the same goal.
If you're looking for rare tomato varieties or insect-friendly perennials: Saturday morning right after opening. The best items sell out quickly.
