About Herbstschau Moosburg
Herbstschau Moosburg — edition 2026
The 2026 Autumn Show spans two full festival weekends from September 11 to 20. The opening takes place on Friday evening with the traditional keg tapping by the mayor. Sunday features the grand parade through the old town with costume groups and brass bands. In the Schäfflerhalle, the malting barley exhibition presents the region's best malting barley, while the Zehentstadel hosts special exhibitions on Moosburg's history. Tip
The Family Day offers reduced prices for rides – ideal for an outing with children. The closing fireworks on the last evening are best viewed from the opposite side of the Isar river. Moosburg boasts a picturesque old town with the baroque Kasten and the early Romanesque Kastulusmünster – a stroll after visiting the festival tent is worthwhile.
A Tradition for Generations
The Moosburger Herbstschau is one of Lower Bavaria's oldest and most popular Volksfests. The small ducal town of Moosburg an der Isar in the Freising district celebrates its major autumn festival on the traditional Viehmarktplatz for ten days – a combination of Bavarian Wiesn (Oktoberfest-style fair) tradition, Erntedankfest (harvest thanksgiving), a trade exhibition, and family fun. The grounds are representative of original Bavarian folk festival culture, where the festival tent, carousel, and local customs can still be experienced authentically.
The Festival Tent and the Urweisse-Hütt'n
The centerpiece is the large festival tent with beer service from the local brewery and Lower Bavarian festival cuisine – roast chicken, grilled fish on a stick, pork roast, dumplings, and pretzels are naturally on the menu. Adjacent, the smaller ERDINGER Urweisse-Hüttn invites you for a wheat beer break in a convivial atmosphere. Live bands provide the mood every evening, from brass music and party classics to cover bands on weekends.
Amusement Rides and Family Fun
Around the festival tent, you'll find a wide selection of amusement rides: bumper cars, a chain carousel, a Ferris wheel, a haunted house, shooting galleries, prize stalls, and sweet temptations like candied almonds, gingerbread hearts, or cotton candy. A family day with reduced prices is a regular feature, as is the grand closing fireworks that crown the end of the festival.
Harvest Thanksgiving and Malting Barley Exhibition
In the Bavarian festival calendar, the Herbstschau also serves as the Erntedankfest. The Braugerstenschau (malting barley exhibition) takes place in the Schäfflerhalle – a presentation of the local malting barley harvest with awards for the best yields. In the historic Zehentstadel, special exhibitions by local clubs and the local history museum add a cultural dimension to the program.
Parade and Festive Opening
The festive opening is traditionally marked by a parade through Moosburg's old town, featuring costume groups, brass bands, decorated floats, and local clubs. This is followed by the ceremonial tapping of the first beer keg in the festival tent by the mayor – with the classic 'O'zapft is!' (It's tapped!), the ten-day festival officially begins.
