With a tradition spanning over 170 years, the Moerser Kirmes is one of North Rhine-Westphalia's major folk festivals: around 400,000 visitors over five days, over 200 showmen with high-tech rides and classic stalls, party zones, and a full gastronomic offering. 170 Years of Folk Festival in the City Centre Buzz

When early September sees Kastellplatz, Neumarkt, and Friedrich-Ebert-Platz in Moers become a showman's stage, the Moerser Kirmes is here — a folk festival with over 170 years of tradition, counting among the largest Kirmes events in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 400,000 visitors over five days. Organised by Moers Marketing GmbH and the City of Moers.

Over 200 Showmen, All City Centre Squares

More than 200 showmen set up their stalls throughout Moers city centre. The Kirmes is not concentrated in one single fairground but flows through the main squares and connecting streets — giving the event its characteristic "city Kirmes" feel. Offerings:

  • High-Tech Rides — Looping coasters, Ferris wheels, roller coasters, modern large-scale attractions
  • Classic Kirmes Staples — Dodgems, switchback rides, carousels
  • Showman Stalls — Shooting galleries, lucky dips, sweets, ice cream
  • Party Zones — Marquees and open-air stages with live music and DJs in the evening

Moers — Centre of the Lower Rhine

Moers is the largest city in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia and the cultural centre of the Lower Rhine. The city is known nationwide for its Moers Festival (Jazz) — but the Moerser Kirmes is the second major pillar of the city's event calendar and even the larger event in terms of visitor numbers. The historic city centre with its castle and park provides the atmospheric setting.
