Stuttgart's largest purely charitable Christmas market in the Möhringen district
While the city center boasts the Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt, one of Germany's largest and most touristy Advent markets, the Möhringer Christkindlesmarkt thrives on its contrasting concept: purely charitable, with all proceeds benefiting social projects in the district. This makes it a favorite event for many Stuttgart residents looking to avoid the crowds in the city center on the Saturday before the 1st Advent.
The market celebrates its 49th edition in 2026 — supported by the Möhringen Citizens' Association, which has been organizing the district's events for decades. Over 40 stalls offer homemade goods, baked items, jewelry, candles, and mulled wine. District council members themselves serve bratwurst and mulled wine — a detail that distinguishes the market from commercial Advent markets.
In the community center foyer, the "Eine-Welt-Laden" (One World Shop) offers fair-trade Christmas items: nativity figures from Latin America, chocolate from Africa, fabrics from India. At 4 pm, two Santas visit the children at the Citizens' Association's stand — a tradition maintained for decades.
Precisely at 6 pm, market activities conclude with a final concert: the Liederkranz Möhringen — one of the district's oldest choirs — sings Advent songs in the Martinskirche. Those who visited the market often proceed to the closing service before heading home. This makes the market not just a place for consumption, but also a community experience.
With around 32,000 inhabitants, Möhringen is one of Stuttgart's larger districts, located in the south of the city on the Filder slope. Incorporated in 1908, Möhringen has retained its distinct character — with its own train station (S-Bahn S1, S2, S3 plus U-Bahn U3, U5, U6), its own clubs, and its own identity. The Möhringen Citizens' Association is a central figure in this local life, and the Christkindlesmarkt is its most well-known showcase.
The 49th edition of the market upholds the charitable concept: over 40 stalls, service by district council members, 100% of proceeds for social projects in the district. The Möhringen Citizens' Association has been coordinating for decades — and the format has proven successful.
