Climate-neutral forest summer festival with tree climbing, wild herb walks, and high seat ascent
The summer festival at Haus des Waldes has been the family meeting point for years for everyone interested in forests, nature, and environmental protection. The Haus des Waldes — an educational and meeting facility of the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald in the Stuttgart district of Degerloch — will be hosting a climate-neutral organized summer festival on its grounds on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The 2026 motto addresses climate change and its visible effects on the urban forest: drought, pest infestation, storm damage, forest conversion to climate-stable mixed forests. Interactive stations vividly explain what is happening in the forest and how it is adapting — from tree species selection to soil and water cycle dynamics.
Tree climbing in small groups is one of the most popular highlights — professionals secure participants in a specially prepared giant tree. Wild herb walks lead around the Haus des Waldes and teach about edible plants and their uses. A high seat ascent offers a view from a hunter's perspective above the treetops. In addition, there will be readings, hands-on activities for children, a woodworking workshop, and sniffer dog demonstrations.
The summer festival is aimed at all age groups: families with children, youth groups from Stuttgart schools, hobby nature lovers, and adults interested in forestry and nature conservation. The catering area offers regional food, drinks, and vegetarian options — all designed to be as climate-friendly as possible.
The Haus des Waldes is located at Königsträßle 74 in Stuttgart-Degerloch, on the edge of the Filderebene forest areas. The Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW), the federal association for forest, environmental, and nature conservation, operates a year-round educational program here for schools, families, and adults. The summer festival is one of the highlights of the annual program and celebrates the connection between the city and the forest.
