Model Building in Germany's Largest Private Military Museum

The Museum for Military and Contemporary History Stammheim, with its 17,000 square meters of exhibition space, is the largest private museum for military and contemporary history in Germany. Located in the Stammheim district of Stuttgart, it displays an exceptionally extensive collection of vehicles, uniforms, weapons, and everyday objects from the 19th and 20th centuries. For ten years, the Modellbautage have used this venue as a stage for a model-building exhibition that is unique in the Southern German hobby scene.

10th Edition 2026

The 10th edition of the Modellbautage 2026 will take place on Saturday, April 25th, and Sunday, April 26th, 2026, starting at 10 AM each day. The event is organized by IPMS Deutschland (International Plastic Modelers' Society Germany) in collaboration with the Stammheim Museum. Regional and national model builders will present their works on the exhibition grounds – from historical military models from World War I and vehicles of the Bundeswehr and NVA to civilian models from aviation, railways, and the navy. A festival tent for catering and socializing completes the offering.

Exhibitors, Competitions, and Workshops

Exhibitors come from all over the German-speaking model-building scene – IPMS chapters from Bavaria, Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Hesse, and Switzerland will present their collections. Competition categories – contests for the best models in various scales (1:35, 1:48, 1:72, 1:144) and thematic groups (tanks, aircraft, ships, dioramas) – are a central part of the program. Workshops led by experienced model builders will introduce beginners and advanced hobbyists to specific techniques (weathering, painting, decals).

Model Building Market and Collectors

Accompanying the exhibition, a model building market will take place. Dealers from Southern Germany will offer kits, tools, paints, decals, and secondary literature. Collector swap tables will be set up, a hotspot for the Stuttgart model-building scene and for collectors from the surrounding federal states.
