Midsummer's Eve in the Southern Erzgebirge District
As the third weekend in June approaches, the first campfires are lit on the Bärenstein sports field. The festival 'Mittsommernächte Bärenstein' (MNB) was launched in 2023 by Asatru Germanitas Miriquidi e.V. and has since become a regular meeting point for followers of pagan spirituality, medieval enthusiasts, and pagan folk/pagan metal fans from Germany and neighboring Czech Republic.
Three Pillars: Market, Ritual, Concert
The concept combines three worlds. During the day, a historical market opens with merchant stalls, cooking demonstrations, blacksmiths, bow making, leatherworkers, and craft demonstrations – all in historical attire. In between, there are cultural performances, dances, and small rituals for the summer solstice. As dusk falls, the festival moves to the stage: folk, pagan folk, and pagan metal until deep into the short midsummer nights.
Line-up 2026
The 2026 program brings together national and international bands from the Nordic and pagan music scene: Varg (DE, Heathen Metal), Vermilia (FI, Pagan Folk), Confire, Gefrierbrand, Gwendion, Varkocs, Trold, and XIV Dark Centuries are on the festival list – complemented by other selected acts. The full lineup will be continuously updated on the website and social media channels.
Camping and Authentic Camp Life
A campsite is set up on-site (with signage in the village). For medieval enthusiasts, there is an area for authentic camp life with historical tents. Mead, hearty food, regional specialties, and basic sanitary facilities complete the offering. Ample parking is available.
Bärenstein, the Southern Erzgebirge, and the Bohemian Border
Bärenstein is located in the Erzgebirge district, directly on the Czech border. The bridge leads to Vejprty. The location on the Pöhlberg and its proximity to the mining town of Annaberg-Buchholz make this Erzgebirge village a charming destination – even outside the festival weekend.
