Medieval Times at Rabenstein Castle
The Medieval Market Burg Rabenstein takes place in the summer on the grounds of the approximately 800-year-old Rabenstein Castle in the municipality of Ahorntal, in the district of Bayreuth – right in the heart of Franconian Switzerland. The imposing castle complex high above the Ailsbach valley provides one of the most impressive backdrops for a medieval spectacle in Upper Franconia. The event is organized by Burg Rabenstein Event GmbH.
Historical Camp and Crafts
Historical groups from all over Germany set up their camp in front of the castle, offering insights into life in past centuries. Craftspeople demonstrate old professions such as blacksmithing, woodworking, and basket weaving, often with hands-on stations. Traders offer historical goods, creating an authentic-looking marketplace.
Staged Combat, Music, and Fire Show
The program includes field battles and staged combats, performance artists and jugglers, archery, medieval music groups, and a puppet theater for children. The atmospheric conclusion to each day of the festival is provided by evening fire shows. The market is ceremoniously opened at 12 PM on the first day.
Twice a Year in Franconian Switzerland
Rabenstein Castle hosts two major medieval markets annually – one in spring/early summer and this summer date at the end of July/beginning of August. Both markets follow a similar program. With its location in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldensteiner Forest Nature Park, Rabenstein Castle is also a popular excursion destination, making the medieval market an experience for the whole family.
