For a weekend, the historic market square, in the shadow of the former Benedictine abbey, transforms into an open stage for exhibitors, craftspeople, and gourmets.
Diverse Offerings Between Tradition and Trend
The range of products extends from practical household items and fashionable textiles to stylish leather goods, sparkling jewelry, and creative decorative ideas for home and garden. Those who simply want to stroll, browse, and enjoy the Saarland's summer flair will also find themselves well catered for here. The exhibitors come from the Saarland, the greater region, and sometimes from neighboring federal states and the nearby Moselle region.
Market Season with a System
The Summer Market is part of the Mettlach market season, which is choreographed by Saarschleife Touristik throughout the year: Easter Market to kick off the season, Pentecost Market, Summer Market in midsummer, and Autumn Market to round it off. The markets are free to enter and open on both days.
More Than Just a Market
Those who spend the day in Mettlach often combine their market visit with a walk to the Saarschleife — Germany's most beautiful river bend — or a stroll through the Villeroy & Boch outlet right next door. The nearby natural pearls Cloef and the Treetop Walk can also be easily incorporated into the summer day. As every year, Saarschleife Touristik GmbH invites you to the summer stroll market in Mettlach on the first weekend of August 2026. The stalls are spread out between the market square, the abbey fountain, and the shady alleys around the Villeroy & Boch ensemble. Those looking for a short break will find Saarlandic and French cuisine in nearby cafés and restaurants within walking distance.

- 11:00 AM–6:00 PM — Continuation of the market activities
- 6:00 PM — Dismantling and transition to the Autumn Market

Getting There
Mettlach is located in the Merzig-Wadern district, about 40 km northwest of Saarbrücken. By car via the B51 or the A8 (exit Merzig). Mettlach train station is served hourly from Saarbrücken via Merzig — the station is a 10-minute walk to the market square.
Parking
Parking is available around the market square and at the Villeroy & Boch outlet. It can get crowded on market days, so arriving early is recommended.

Free admission. Saturday 10 AM–6 PM, Sunday 11 AM–6 PM.
