Combination Tip
A visit to the Cloef viewpoint (about a 4 km drive from Mettlach) is worthwhile before or after the Summer Festival. The Saarschleife is one of Germany's iconic locations.
Mettlach – the Gateway to the Saarschleife
The municipality of Mettlach in the Merzig-Wadern district is one of the most scenically attractive locations in Saarland. It is located directly at the Cloef-Atrium viewpoint above the world-famous Saarschleife – one of Germany's most photographed natural monuments. With the traditional ceramic brand Villeroy & Boch (founded in 1748) and the former Benedictine abbey, Mettlach combines industrial history and cultural heritage in a confined space.
The Summer Festival in the Market Series
The Mettlach Summer Festival is part of a series of markets and festivals that take place annually in the market square: Easter market, summer market, Saarschleife market, and Christmas market structure the year. The summer festival runs in June and combines market atmosphere with a family program and cultural offerings.
Three Days of Program
A mixed program is spread over three days: market stalls from regional providers (producers from the Saarschleifenland, arts and crafts, regional gastronomy), live music on a small stage, and a children's program specifically designed for families. The highlight on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 3:00 PM: the children's magician Eddi Zauberfinger, a long-time family friend of the Mettlach Summer Festival.
Cultural Program in Cooperation
The municipality of Mettlach and the Kreiskulturzentrum Villa Fuchs present a joint cultural program every year, bundling musical, traditional, and entertaining events. The Summer Festival is one of the accessible opportunities to get to know Mettlach's cultural life – with free admission and a relaxed atmosphere.
In the Saarschleifenland
Mettlach's market square is located in the center of the Saarschleifenland, a tourist region between Merzig, Saarburg (Rhineland-Palatinate), and Luxembourg. Visitors to the Summer Festival can perfectly combine the day with a hike at the Cloef viewpoint, a boat trip on the Saar, or a visit to Saareck Castle.
