Three days of village community on the Merler Dorfplatz — June 12th to 14th, 2026
For over 35 years, the Merler Dorffest has been the most important summer festival of the Merl district of Meckenheim (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis). The Merler Dorfgemeinschaft e.V. — founded in 1990, and an registered association since 2006 — promotes the preservation of tradition and customs with this festival. Politically and denominationally independent, strictly neutral, supported by the voluntary commitment of many Merl residents.
Three days of village festival from June 12th to 14th, 2026 on the Merler Dorfplatz. The weekend is clearly structured:
What distinguishes the Merler Dorffest is the close collaboration of the Merl clubs: the local history society, sports club, fire department, carnival club, church community, women's association, youth club — all contribute stands, food, and programs. From homemade cake on Sunday to grilled pork roast on Saturday evening, much is prepared in-house.
Instead of anonymous food trucks, there are typical Rhenish specialties from the clubs: Frikadellen (meatballs), Reibekuchen (potato pancakes) with apple sauce, Spießbraten (roast pork), Bratwurst (sausage), Pommes (fries), plus a cake stand by the women, ice cream from an ice cream cart, Kölsch beer on tap, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. Prices are family-friendly, and the proceeds go back into village projects.
One of the hallmarks of the Merler Dorfgemeinschaft: The proceeds from the festival go either to village beautification projects (benches, greenery, playground equipment) or are donated to charitable causes — locally, transparently, and decided by the general assembly.
Merl is one of the eastern districts of Meckenheim, located between Rheinbach and Bonn on Federal Road 256. The approximately 27,000 inhabitants of the entire city of Meckenheim are spread across the center and seven districts; Merl, with its own identity and active club life, is one of the more self-confident among them.
Classic Rhenish village festival with high club participation. Food and drinks are offered by the local history society, fire department, carnival club, and church community. Proceeds go to village projects or charitable causes.
