Bavaria meets Saarland

When the first Maßkrüge are raised in the tranquil town of Merchweiler at the end of September, the whole of Saarland knows: it's Wiesn time again. Since its premiere in 2011, the Merchweiler Oktoberfest has blossomed into one of the largest and best-known folk festivals in the greater region — right in the heart of the Neunkirchen district, far from Munich's Theresienwiese. With its fourteenth edition in 2026, organizer Alm Event Gastro GmbH is once again bringing the full program to the festival grounds.

The Festival Tent — Wood, Hits, and Chicken

The centerpiece of the event is the large, wood-paneled festival tent, which is erected each year in the style of a classic Munich Wiesn hall. Long rows of beer benches, blue and white diamonds, Lederhosen, Dirndls — anyone familiar with the original will feel right at home. Those who aren't yet familiar will get to know it here in the Saarland version: a bit more relaxed, with the unmistakable charm of the region.

Stars on Stage

Year after year, the organizers rely on proven stars from the German party and Schlager music scene. Artists like Mickie Krause, Lorenz Büffel (“Johnny Däpp”), Isi Glück, and Almklausi have been at the top of the Mallorca and Après-Ski charts for years and deliver their hits live in Merchweiler. The lineup is complemented by four party bands that keep the atmosphere going between the headliners.

Bavarian Cuisine in Saarland

The culinary offerings are classic: roast pork, Weißwurst (white sausages) with sweet mustard, Obazda (cheese spread), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), and Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) — everything the Bavarian tavern kitchen has to offer. Vegetarians will also find something to enjoy. The beer flows traditionally from a Maß (one liter) or a Seidel (half a liter).

VIP Lounge with a View

For those who prefer something a bit more exclusive, a spot in the elevated VIP lounge can be booked: a clear view of the stage, table service, a platter of traditional specialties, and the first beer are included in the price. VIP tables are, as experience shows, sold out long before the festival begins.

Family Day and Tradition

One Sunday of the festival is traditionally Family Day with free admission and activities for children. This ensures that the Merchweiler Oktoberfest remains what it was at its core: a folk festival for all generations, embedded in the event calendar of Saarland between Saarbrücken, Neunkirchen, and St. Wendel.

Merchweiler Oktoberfest — edition 2026

The 14th edition of the Merchweiler Oktoberfest spans nine festival days between September 25th and October 3rd, 2026. Four heavyweights of the party scene – Mickie Krause, Lorenz Büffel, Isi Glück, and Almklausi – will take the festival tent stage, joined by four party bands, Family Day with free admission, and a VIP lounge with table service.

From September 25th to October 3rd, 2026, the Merchweiler festival grounds will transform for the final time this decade under the fourteenth flag into a small Bavarian-style Theresienwiese in Saarland. Admission is from 6 PM daily, the program starts around 7 PM, and the last Maß is usually finished around 1 AM. VIP tables are, as experience shows, booked weeks before the festival begins.
