Franconian wine festival in the historic castle courtyard above the Main valley
The Homburg Wine Festival – traditionally also called Gössenheim Castle Wine Festival – is a Franconian wine festival held in the historic courtyard and garden of the Homburg Castle Ruins above Gössenheim. Gössenheim is located in the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia, within the administrative community of Gemünden am Main. The festival is organized by FC Gössenheim; the 16th edition already took place in 2013, attesting to its long tradition.
The organizers promote the festival as "Franconia's most beautiful wine tavern" – and the setting proves them right: historic walls, the view over the old wine village, and the steep slopes of the Main valley. Wines from the renowned vineyards of Homburger Kallmuth and Homburger Edelfrau are served, along with regional dishes from the festival kitchen.
Live music from established bands accompanies the festival days. The wine festival is opened with the presentation or crowning of the Wine Princess, and it concludes with a fireworks display over the Kallmuth – both are fixed program points that draw thousands of visitors to the castle courtyard.
Homburg Castle is one of the largest castle complexes in Lower Franconia and sits visibly enthroned above the Main valley. In this environment, the festival combines Franconian wine culture, club life, and history into an atmospheric summer experience – an event firmly anchored in the Lower Franconian wine festival calendar.
The Homburg Wine Festival 2026 runs over two weekends: from July 24 to 26 and from July 30 to August 2. The venue is the historic courtyard and garden of Homburg Castle Ruins above the wine village of Gössenheim, organized by FC Gössenheim. Wines from the top vineyards Homburger Kallmuth and Homburger Edelfrau are served, along with regional dishes from the festival kitchen and live music from established bands. The festival opens with the Wine Princess and ends with fireworks over the Kallmuth.
The specific bands and times for 2026 will be announced by FC Gössenheim via homburger-weinfest.de. No artists other than the stated fixed program points will be invented.
Gössenheim is located in the Main-Spessart district, accessible via the A7 motorway (exit Hammelburg/Gemünden) and the B26 federal road. Homburg Castle Ruins are located above the village; the ascent to the castle is on foot – sturdy footwear recommended.

The fireworks display over the Kallmuth at the end of the festival is the visual highlight – a spot with a view of the Main valley is worthwhile.
