Wine Festival at the Castle Ruins
The Homburg Wine Festival – traditionally also called Gössenheim Castle Wine Festival – is a Franconian wine festival held in the historic courtyard and garden of the Homburg Castle Ruins above Gössenheim. Gössenheim is located in the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia, within the administrative community of Gemünden am Main. The festival is organized by FC Gössenheim; the 16th edition already took place in 2013, attesting to its long tradition.
Franconia's Most Beautiful Wine Tavern
The organizers promote the festival as "Franconia's most beautiful wine tavern" – and the setting proves them right: historic walls, the view over the old wine village, and the steep slopes of the Main valley. Wines from the renowned vineyards of Homburger Kallmuth and Homburger Edelfrau are served, along with regional dishes from the festival kitchen.
Music and Traditions
Live music from established bands accompanies the festival days. The wine festival is opened with the presentation or crowning of the Wine Princess, and it concludes with a fireworks display over the Kallmuth – both are fixed program points that draw thousands of visitors to the castle courtyard.
A Setting with History
Homburg Castle is one of the largest castle complexes in Lower Franconia and sits visibly enthroned above the Main valley. In this environment, the festival combines Franconian wine culture, club life, and history into an atmospheric summer experience – an event firmly anchored in the Lower Franconian wine festival calendar.
