About Medieval Market Kropp

The Medieval Market Kropp transforms the Geestland event grounds by the swimming pool into an early medieval world on the first weekend of July. Merchants, artisans, warriors, musicians, and jesters populate the area—along with camp life, hands-on activities for children, and medieval catering. On July 4th and 5th, 2026, the event will open its gates for two days in Nordfriesland's Kropp, the main town of the Kropp-Stapelholm office in the Schleswig-Flensburg district.

Two Days of the Early Middle Ages

The Medieval Market Kropp takes place annually on the first weekend of July on the Geestland event grounds by the swimming pool—a large event area in the middle of the municipality of Kropp in the Schleswig-Flensburg district, state of Schleswig-Holstein. An entire early medieval world is set up with campsites, market stalls, and a stage for historical combat demonstrations and music.

Market, Crafts, and Camp Life

The central components:

  • Market — handmade goods ranging from leather accessories and jewelry to drinking horns and medieval clothing
  • Artisans — demonstrations of historical techniques: blacksmithing, woodturning, felting, weaving, leatherwork
  • Camp Life — authentic reenactor camps with tents, fires, and daily life portrayals
  • Music and Juggling — medieval bands, jesters, jugglers, fire shows
  • Participation — archery, blacksmithing experiences, historical games, and workshop stations for children

Early Medieval Focus

Unlike many medieval markets, Kropp focuses on the early Middle Ages — the Viking Age and the era of the Saxons and early Christians. This fits geographically perfectly: Kropp is located just a few kilometers south of Schleswig and the UNESCO World Heritage Viking settlement Haithabu, Northern Europe's most important early medieval trading metropolis.

Family-Friendly Concept

The market is deliberately designed to be family-friendly: admission for children under 10 is free, severely disabled persons pay half price, and the program offers numerous hands-on activities for all ages. Food is available at several stalls with medieval dishes — spit-roasted meat, mead, stick bread, homemade bread.

Medieval Market Kropp — edition 2026
