Medieval Festival in the Castle Park of the Cast Iron City
The Medieval Festival in Lauchhammer Castle Park is the traditional spring opening for the medieval scene in southern Brandenburg. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 11th edition — on March 28 and 29, 2026, the Lauchhammer-West castle park will transform into an authentic medieval camp with a market, stages, encampment, and a knights' tournament. The organizer is the agency Heiterhaufen, which organizes medieval festivals throughout Germany.
Program and Performances
Live music, acrobatics, and fire shows alternate on two main stages:
- Dos Carachos — Medieval Rock
- Orlando — Minstrel Music
- Der Medikus — Humorous Medieval Show
- Fabula — Historical Sounds
- Knights' tournament on horseback by "Midgards Feuerbund"
- Fire show artists after dark
Market, Crafts, and Camp Life
The market brings together around 40 historically dressed traders and craftspeople: blacksmiths, turners, potters, leatherworkers, glassblowers, bow makers. In the camp, you can watch mead being brewed, cheese being made, and bread being baked in clay ovens. For children, there is a hand-cranked Ferris wheel, a children's carousel, and a donkey enclosure with riding opportunities.
Lauchhammer and its Castle Park
Lauchhammer, with around 14,000 inhabitants in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, is known as the "Cast Iron City" — the first cast iron process was developed here in 1725, later producing the Quadriga of the Brandenburg Gate and thousands of garden figures. Lauchhammer-West Castle Park covers about 9 hectares with old trees and historic paths — an ideal backdrop for the medieval spectacle shortly after the Ice Saints.
Accessibility and Families
The festival is accessible (restrooms available), and families benefit from a special arrangement: with two adults and their own children or grandchildren, only the first child pays regular admission.
