The Masserberg Tower Festival is the traditional summer festival at the Rennsteigwarte on the Eselsberg, an 843 m high viewpoint on the famous Rennsteig in the Thuringian Forest. On August 23, 2026, from 11 am to 6 pm, the climatic health resort community of Masserberg in the Hildburghausen district invites you to a family-friendly mountain festival with music and regional catering. The event is organized by three local clubs: Thüringer Wald Verein Masserberg, Förderverein der Bergwacht Masserberg, and SG «Rennsteig» Masserberg.

Getting There

By car: Take the A71 motorway, exit at Suhl, then continue via Schleusingen to Masserberg. Hike from Masserberg to the Eselsberg (approx. 45 min). Parking available in Masserberg.

Rennsteigwarte – View over the Thuringian Forest

The Rennsteigwarte on the Eselsberg is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Rennsteig – the 169 km long ridge hiking trail that runs through the Thuringian Forest from Hörschel near Eisenach to Blankenstein. At an altitude of 843 meters, the tower offers panoramic views over the Henneberg ridge, the Schiefergebirge (Slate Mountains), and on clear days, far into the Rhön region.

The Tower Festival is jointly organized by three local clubs: Thüringer Wald Verein Masserberg e.V. (hiking club), Förderverein der Bergwacht Masserberg e.V. (mountain rescue support), and SG «Rennsteig» Masserberg e.V. (sports club). This constellation shapes the festival: down-to-earth, close to nature, and run by volunteers.
