About Maikammerer Weinkerwe

The Maikammerer Weinkerwe, alongside the Maifest, is the second major wine event in the Cittaslow community of Maikammer. For four days, the Palatinate wine village celebrates its Kirchweih (church consecration festival) on the third weekend of July with classic Palatinate customs: raising the Kerwe tree on Friday, Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Kerwe Sunday, and the Kerwemontag (Kerwe Monday) winding down. The Maikammer vintners serve their summer wines, associations cater at the festival stands, and live music accompanies the evening programs. Maikammer lies at the foot of the Kalmit — the highest elevation in the Pfälzer Mittelhaardt — and thus in one of the most impressive landscapes of the region. The Weinkerwe is an authentic Palatinate village Kerwe in a Palatinate wine village that consciously cultivates its quality of life and identity.

Cittaslow Maikammer in July

While the Maifest in May draws international attention to Maikammer, the Maikammerer Weinkerwe in July is more of a festival for the people of Maikammer themselves — and their regular guests. Cittaslow-Maikammer, with its commitment to cultivated quality of life, also offers a special setting for its summer Kerwe.

Palatinate Kerwe Tradition

The Weinkerwe follows classic Palatinate customs: raising the Kerwe tree on Friday, full operation on Saturday with the main stage program, Frühschoppen on Kerwe Sunday, and the "blauer Kerwemontag" (blue Kerwe Monday) as a winding down. The local associations — fire brigade, sports club, music club, singing club, and others — shape the festival program and ensure the typical club atmosphere.

Wines from the Maikammer Area

The Maikammer vintners serve wines from the vineyards of the Mittelhaardt-Südspitze and the Südliche Weinstraße. In midsummer, the entire spectrum of Palatinate white wines is the focus — Rieslings with fruity freshness, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, rosé wines, and sparkling wine. On warm summer evenings, the Palatinate Schorle (wine spritzer) is a particularly popular drink.

Palatinate Sociability at the Kalmit

Maikammer is located at the foot of the Kalmit, the highest elevation in the Pfälzer Mittelhaardt, at over 670 meters. Those who want to combine the festival weekend with a short hike will find ideal conditions here: hike to the Kalmit summit in the morning, and enjoy the Maikammerer Weinkerwe at lunch and in the evening. A combination that many Palatinate travelers find particularly fulfilling.

Maikammerer Weinkerwe — edition 2026

The Maikammerer Weinkerwe 2026 will take place from Friday, July 17 to Monday, July 20, 2026, in the town center. Four days of Palatinate Kerwe with the raising of the Kerwe tree, Frühschoppen on Kerwe Sunday, and Palatinate specialties.

The 2026 edition continues the proven Kerwe format: Friday opening with the raising of the Kerwe tree, full operation on the weekend, Frühschoppen on Kerwe Sunday, and "blauer Kerwemontag" as the closing.

The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
