Traditional Weinkerwe (wine festival) of the Cittaslow community Maikammer on the third weekend of July with Palatinate wine and Kerwe traditions
While the Maifest in May draws international attention to Maikammer, the Maikammerer Weinkerwe in July is more of a festival for the people of Maikammer themselves — and their regular guests. Cittaslow-Maikammer, with its commitment to cultivated quality of life, also offers a special setting for its summer Kerwe.
The Weinkerwe follows classic Palatinate customs: raising the Kerwe tree on Friday, full operation on Saturday with the main stage program, Frühschoppen on Kerwe Sunday, and the "blauer Kerwemontag" (blue Kerwe Monday) as a winding down. The local associations — fire brigade, sports club, music club, singing club, and others — shape the festival program and ensure the typical club atmosphere.
The Maikammer vintners serve wines from the vineyards of the Mittelhaardt-Südspitze and the Südliche Weinstraße. In midsummer, the entire spectrum of Palatinate white wines is the focus — Rieslings with fruity freshness, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, rosé wines, and sparkling wine. On warm summer evenings, the Palatinate Schorle (wine spritzer) is a particularly popular drink.
Maikammer is located at the foot of the Kalmit, the highest elevation in the Pfälzer Mittelhaardt, at over 670 meters. Those who want to combine the festival weekend with a short hike will find ideal conditions here: hike to the Kalmit summit in the morning, and enjoy the Maikammerer Weinkerwe at lunch and in the evening. A combination that many Palatinate travelers find particularly fulfilling.
The 2026 edition continues the proven Kerwe format: Friday opening with the raising of the Kerwe tree, full operation on the weekend, Frühschoppen on Kerwe Sunday, and "blauer Kerwemontag" as the closing.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
