Company Run at the Idyllic Hengsteysee
When the days in September are still long, but the heat of summer has passed, the Hengsteysee in Hagen is ideal for a special form of running: the AOK-Firmenlauf Hagen. On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the 12th edition of the run, which is less a competition and more a communal company experience, will commence. Up to several thousand participants from Hagen and East Westphalian companies gather around the lake for a relaxed jog — followed by an evening by the lake.
6.8 Kilometers on the South Bank
The course is a 6.8-kilometer loop along the southern bank of the Hengsteysee — flat, well-signposted, and very pleasant to run through the open landscape. The start and finish are at the Familienbad Hengstey / Strandhaus Hengsteysee (Seestr. 4, 58089 Hagen). The run is explicitly not a competitive format — participants can complete the course at any pace, jogging or walking.
Concept: Run, Network, Enjoy
The event motto “Run. Network. Enjoy.” sums up the concept perfectly. Before the start (from 4:00 PM), company teams gather in specially erected team tents — many with logos, catering, and networking areas. After the run, the Strandhaus Beach Bar directly on the lake provides the setting for the communal wrap-up: cool drinks, light catering, and an atmosphere that promotes team cohesion.
Service for Companies
The organizer offers comprehensive services for companies: team registration with an online platform, personalized team shirts with company logos, flyer and poster templates for internal mobilization, and branded team tents as optional equipment. Changing rooms, lockers, and showers are available at the venue — full facilities that make the experience professional.
Hengsteysee — Hagen's Local Recreation Pearl
The Hengsteysee is a reservoir on the Ruhr river in the south of Hagen. With its approximately 250 hectares of water surface and its central location between Hagen, Schwerte, and Herdecke, it is one of the most important local recreation areas in the southern Ruhr region — popular for water sports, cycling, hiking, and running. The idyllic landscape makes the Hengsteysee the perfect backdrop for the company run — and for the evening together by the lake.
AOK NordWest as Main Sponsor
The main sponsor and namesake is AOK NordWest — the general local health insurance fund, which operates in Northwest Germany (Westphalia-Lippe and Schleswig-Holstein). The AOK Company Run is part of a series of similar company runs organized by AOK NordWest in several cities — as a measure for occupational health promotion and to enhance member engagement. The Hagen edition is one of the most established company run events in the region.
Hagen at the Transition between Sauerland and Ruhr Area
Hagen (approx. 188,000 inhabitants) is located at the transition between the Ruhr area and the Sauerland — a city with an industrial history, a university (FernUni Hagen), and remarkable local recreation topography. With the Hengsteysee, the Lenne valley, and the hills of the Sauerland, Hagen offers a diverse sporting backdrop that the AOK Company Run optimally utilizes.
