About Maritime Family Day

Once a year, the Maritime Family Day transforms the area around Speicher XI in Bremen's Überseestadt into a large, free festival ground for the whole family. Amidst historic warehouse scenery and harbour flair, a colourful programme of stage shows, hands-on activities, pirate fun, and knowledge stations awaits you. Located in the Walle district, the Family Day is a fixed date in Bremen's spring event calendar.

The Maritime Family Day at Speicher XI will take place on May 24, 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm in Bremen's Überseestadt – the sixth edition. As part of Bremen's theme year PHAENOMENAL 2026, the programme includes a soap bubble show and a science show by Universum Bremen with experiments. Free admission.

On Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Maritime Family Day will invite you for the sixth time from 11 am to 5 pm around Speicher XI and the BLG Forum in Bremen's Überseestadt. In keeping with Bremen's theme year PHAENOMENAL 2026 — Discover Bremen. Experience Knowledge., there will be an interactive giant soap bubble show by Belgian artist Elias and a science show by Universum with astonishing experiments. In addition, there will be a mobile children's disco with DJ Ronny, a photo booth with a mermaid, pirate license activities, harbour museum tours, and numerous hands-on activities for the whole family. Free admission.

Family Festival Against a Historic Warehouse Backdrop

Speicher XI is one of Bremen's most impressive industrial monuments – a long brick warehouse that is now the heart of the Überseestadt in the Walle district. It is here that the Maritime Family Day invites you once a year to a large, free festival for young and old. You'll experience the maritime history of the quarter up close while immersing yourself in a varied family programme.

Stage Shows, Pirates, and a Knowledge Kiosk

The programme includes stage shows with theatre, music, and magic, hands-on activities, and pirate fun where children can earn their pirate license. The knowledge kiosk of Bremen's Science Centre Übersee-Museum brings maritime phenomena to life. Bouncy castles, face painting, and play areas round off the offerings for the little ones, while food stalls cater to culinary needs.

Maritime Flair in the Überseestadt

The Überseestadt has grown from the old Bremen harbour area into one of the most vibrant new city districts. During the Family Day, the connection between harbour history and urban life is palpable – with views of water and warehouses in the heart of the Hanseatic city. The festival is organised by the Überseestadt Marketing Association together with WFB Wirtschaftsfoerderung Bremen.

Admission is free. The compact festival grounds around Speicher XI are easily explored on foot and are quickly accessible by public transport from the city centre – ideal for a relaxed family day by the water.
