Regional and Creative Market around the Elisabethkirche in the "Golden Autumn"
When the Lahn meadows glow in mid-October and the first chestnut leaves fly through Marburg's alleys, the Elisabethmarkt comes to town. It is the autumn counterpart to the Marburger Frühling — the city festival with which the people of Marburg conclude their season. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Marburg e. V..
The name is no coincidence: Marburg is the city of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia (1207–1231). The Hungarian princess died here at a young age, her burial church, the Elisabethkirche, is one of the most important early Gothic hall churches in Germany — and the spiritual center of Marburg. The Elisabethmarkt takes place around this church.
The festival plays out on three axes:
The motto "Golden Autumn" shapes not only the market name but also the decoration: pumpkins, corn cobs, grapes, hay bales, autumnal flower arrangements. Anyone who wants to get to know Marburg in autumn should come on the Elisabethmarkt weekend.
Roasted chestnuts, Federweißer (new wine), onion cake, apple wine from the Marburg region — the market is also culinarily autumnal. In addition, music, activities, and a family program on the squares.
Two days of autumn market in the university town. Stadtmarketing Marburg coordinates the program together with partners from the church, social associations, and retail.
Free admission. Purchases and refreshments at the market stalls are separate.
Marburg main train station, then bus or walk to the city center. Parking garages at Erlenring or Pilgrimstein, then walk to the Elisabethkirche.
Free. Purchases and refreshments at the stalls are separate.
Combine the market with a visit to the Elisabethkirche — free admission, the church is particularly atmospheric on market days.
