Two-day indoor metal festival at MatriX Königsbrunn – by the scene, for the scene
The Mammut Festival originated as an initiative of the local Swabian metal scene centred around MatriX in Königsbrunn. The event is organised without a major festival agency: fans, musicians, and crew plan, build, and manage everything together. This community approach shapes the atmosphere and distinguishes Mammut from large commercial festivals.
The festival takes place twice a year: a spring edition two weeks before Easter and an autumn edition on the fourth weekend of October. Both editions feature 16 bands over two days – a balanced mix of well-known headliners and local heroes, covering all subgenres of metal: Black, Death, Heavy, Metalcore, Thrash, Doom, Progressive.
MatriX is an established event hall south of Augsburg, directly accessible via tram line 3. The hall offers decent acoustics and is fully wheelchair accessible. Children under 14 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult – a nod to the festival's family-friendly aspirations despite the heavy music.
A special feature is the ticketing policy: hard tickets exclusively, no online booking, no e-tickets. Orders are placed via [email protected] with a €2 shipping fee. This deliberately old-fashioned solution aligns with the festival's DIY philosophy and helps prevent scalping. There is no on-site camping, but hotels and pitches are available in the surrounding area.
Königsbrunn is located in the Augsburg district of Bavarian Swabia, directly on tram line 3 from Augsburg Central Station. Travel from Munich (A8) or Stuttgart (A8/A7) is straightforward. Those arriving by train should go to Augsburg Hbf and transfer directly to the tram – a clear advantage over remote outdoor metal festivals.
The Spring Edition 2026 of the Mammut Festival will be held on March 20 and 21 at MatriX Königsbrunn. As always, 16 bands will perform over two days, featuring a balanced mix of established acts and the local Swabian metal scene.
Confirmed bands for the Spring Edition 2026 include NECROTTED, Trollfaust, Vanish, Ruin Rising, The Djingerbread Experience, Speaking Stone, Dark Monument, Morbus Dei, Matriarch, Violent Vortex, Strain/Sedate, Haunted Cemetery, Akallabêth, Emanate, Venus Bleeding, and SMIA.
By train: ICE/RE to Augsburg Hauptbahnhof, then take tram line 3 directly to Königsbrunn. By car: A8 (exit Augsburg-West), free parking at MatriX.
Hard tickets only, ordered via [email protected] (plus €2 shipping). No online tickets. 2-day pass: €33 (concession €22), Friday ticket: €18 (concession €15), Saturday ticket: €22 (concession €18).
Fully wheelchair accessible. Children under 14 accompanied by an adult: free admission.
No on-site camping. Hotels and motorhome pitches available in Königsbrunn and Augsburg.
