Maker Faire Tradition in Chemnitz
Since 2019, makers united has been the annual Maker Faire format for the city of Chemnitz — a festival where innovation, technology, craftsmanship, and art come together. Under the roof of the modern Chemnitz Stadthalle and in the surrounding Stadthallenpark, inventors, small manufacturers, tech startups, universities, and dedicated tinkerers present their hands-on projects. The festival is organized by C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH — the company also responsible for the Hut Festival, the Chemnitz Christmas Market, and other major city events.
June 26–28, 2026 — Three Days of Maker Atmosphere
The 2026 festival runs from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28. Friday (Young Makers Day) is specifically reserved for schoolchildren — classes come with their teachers, go through workshop stations, and get inspired by 3D printers, robots, and programming platforms. Saturday and Sunday (10 am–6 pm each day) the festival is open to everyone. The opening on Saturday at 10 am is staged with speeches, live music, and robot performances. Sunday concludes the festival with a family day featuring many child-oriented stations.
Robots, 3D Printing, FabLabs, and Creative Crafts
The program concept follows the Maker Faire philosophy: touch, try, participate. It offers robot demonstrations and competitions (RoboCup student competitions, drone races), 3D printing stations with live demonstrations, FabLab concepts for self-experimentation, laser cutting and CNC demonstrations, soldering workshops, programming stations for Arduino and Raspberry Pi, virtual reality and AR demos, and maker workshops on wood, metal, fabric, and recycled art. Regional blacksmiths, carpenters, leatherworkers, potters, and artists also present their work.
Free Admission on Saturday Thanks to Community4you AG
A special feature of the format: Admission on Saturday, June 27, 2026, is free thanks to sponsorship by Community4you AG (a Chemnitz-based IT company). With this, makers united emphasizes accessible entry to technology and innovation. Regular admission prices apply on Sunday (typically around €10, family ticket cheaper).
Saxony, Chemnitz, and the Maker Ecosystem
Chemnitz was the European Capital of Culture in 2025 and has a distinct tech and maker scene: Chemnitz University of Technology conducts research in robotics, materials science, and microsystems technology, the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU) is located here, and the Brühl district has a creative maker atmosphere. makers united is the annual gathering of this ecosystem — and at the same time its showcase to the outside world, for families and students from the entire region.
