Traditional Christmas Market with Ore Mountains Village and 20m high accessible pyramid — November 27 to December 23, 2026
The Chemnitz Christmas Market dates back to 1814, making it one of Saxony's oldest Christmas markets. From November 27 to December 23, 2026, the Chemnitz city center around Markt, Neumarkt, and Düsseldorfer Platz will transform into a pre-Christmas festive mile. Over 200 stalls will offer Ore Mountains folk art from surrounding manufactories — incense smokers, nutcrackers, candle arches, pyramids, candle holders — as well as mulled wine, Pulsnitz gingerbread, baked apples, stollen, and Saxon specialties.
A special feature of Chemnitz is the Ore Mountains Village on Düsseldorfer Platz: around 20 huts in traditional construction style are grouped around a 20-meter high, accessible Christmas pyramid — one of the tallest of its kind in Germany. Here, Ore Mountains woodcarvers, sculptors, and turners from places like Seiffen, Olbernhau, and Annaberg-Buchholz present their work. When you buy here, you buy directly from the producer. Ore Mountains Village opening hours: Mon–Thu 11 AM–8 PM, Fri–Sat 10 AM–9 PM, Sun 10 AM–8 PM.
Another highlight is the Monastery Christmas (medieval Christmas market), which will take place at a new location in 2026. With jugglers, minstrels, blacksmiths, bow makers, and mead taverns, the medieval atmosphere is revived — a special addition to the classic Christmas market. The main market opens on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 4 PM by the Lord Mayor of Chemnitz.
Chemnitz, an independent city and the third-largest city in Saxony (Zentrum district), is located directly on the northern edge of the Ore Mountains — the city was the European Capital of Culture in 2025. Economically and culturally, it is closely linked to the manufactories of the Ore Mountains district: this is where the famous wooden figures that make Christmas recognizable worldwide are produced. The Chemnitz Christmas Market — and especially the Ore Mountains Village — is the showcase of this tradition. Visitors should also experience the Chemnitz Mining Parade, which traditionally opens the Ore Mountains mining parade season at the end of November.
The 2026 edition of the Chemnitz Christmas Market begins on Friday, November 27, 2026, and ends on Wednesday, December 23, 2026. The official opening with the Lord Mayor will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 4 PM on the stage at the Town Hall.
Markt, Neumarkt, and Düsseldorfer Platz together form the festive mile. Over 200 stalls offer Ore Mountains wood art directly from the manufactories, mulled wine, Pulsnitz gingerbread, Saxon bratwurst, and gingerbread almonds.
Free admission. Mulled wine approx. €4, bratwurst approx. €4, Pulsnitz gingerbread approx. €3–€8. Ore Mountains wood art directly from the manufactories depending on the piece (incense smokers from approx. €30).
Friday, November 27 to Wednesday, December 23, 2026. Opening Sat, Nov 28 at 4 PM by the Lord Mayor.
