A Custom Returns
Erecting a Maypole – it's a tradition that couldn't be more down-to-earth. In Blumenthal, this tradition was revived five years ago by the Blumenthal Citizens' Foundation support association and has since become firmly anchored in the calendar of Bremen's north. On April 30, 2026, starting at 3 PM, the district will gather in the market square in the town center to usher in May together.
Music, Food, and the Grand Erection
The afternoon begins with music from DJ Kaan, accompanied by food and drinks for your culinary enjoyment. The highlight is the erection of the Maypole: Starting at 4 PM, the Blumenthal Volunteer Fire Brigade will raise the decorated pole – a moment that traditionally brings the entire neighborhood together. The Maypole decorations were designed by Anja Rosenfeldt from the Restaurant and Hotel Union. Around 6 PM, the festival on the market square winds down, followed by a 'Dance into May' party at the Hotel Union to continue the celebration.
Living District Culture
The Maibaumsetzen is a prime example of how volunteer engagement keeps traditions alive. The Blumenthal Citizens' Foundation support association, the fire brigade, and local businesses like the Hotel Union organize the festival together – a neighborhood spirit that shapes the character of the town center and brings generations together.
In the Heart of Blumenthal
The venue is the market square on Landrat-Christians-Straße in the Blumenthal district, one of Bremen's northernmost quarters. Its central location in the town center makes the festival a walkable meeting point for the entire district.
