About Wallgau Farmers' Market

In the spa park of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Wallgau, the Haus des Gastes transforms into a lively farmers' market at the beginning of September. Wood carvings, sheep wool, honey, jams, lard, embroidery, hop wreaths, monastic crafts, ceramics, and glass jewelry from regional vendors, along with hearty folk music and a children's program from noon onwards – the Wallgau Farmers' Market is one of the most charming markets in the Alpine World Karwendel.

Farmers' Market in the Karwendel Foothills

The Wallgau Farmers' Market takes place once a year at the beginning of September as part of the Farming Weeks of the Alpine World Karwendel. The venue is the spa park at the Haus des Gastes in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Wallgau, in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. While the cattle drives and alpine festivals of the region follow in mid-September, the farmers' market is one of the earliest dates in the Farming Weeks.

Regional Variety at the Stalls

The exhibitors come mainly from the immediate vicinity – from Wallgau, Krün, Mittenwald, and the surrounding municipalities of the Alpine World Karwendel:

  • Wood carvings from local wood
  • Sheep wool products: felt slippers, hats, blankets
  • Honey and beeswax from regional beekeepers
  • Homemade jams and lard
  • Hand-embroidered traditional costume elements and embroidery
  • Hop wreaths and dried flower arrangements
  • Monastic crafts from regional monasteries
  • Ceramic items and glass jewelry

Music and Children's Program

Hearty folk music accompanies the market all day long – a few musicians play with zither, dulcimer, and accordion. From 12 p.m., the children's program starts with various hands-on activities, traditional games, and small craft offerings. Food and drinks from regional cuisine are available throughout.

Farming Weeks of the Alpine World Karwendel

The Wallgau Farmers' Market is part of the Farming Weeks, a multi-week program by the four Karwendel municipalities of Wallgau, Krün, Mittenwald, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It includes farmers' markets, alpine festivals, cattle drives, dairy visits, and hikes – the culinary and cultural high season in the Upper Bavarian Karwendel region.

Wallgau at the Foot of the Karwendel

Wallgau is located on the southern edge of the Werdenfelser Land in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, directly below the mighty Karwendel mountain range. The municipality thrives on tourism, agriculture, and alpine sports – preserving regional crafts and farming traditions is part of its identity.

Wallgau Farmers' Market — edition 2026

The Wallgau Farmers' Market 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM in the spa park at the Haus des Gastes. Regional crafts (wood carvings, sheep wool, monastic crafts, ceramics, glass jewelry), regional food products (honey, jams, lard, hop wreaths), and continuous hearty folk music characterize the day. A children's program starts at 12:00 PM.

The 2026 edition is part of the Farming Weeks of the Alpine World Karwendel and is organized by Alpenwelt Karwendel Tourismus GmbH. As in previous years, around 30 to 40 exhibitors from the Upper Bavarian Werdenfelser Land and neighboring regions will gather in the Wallgau spa park.

Food and drinks from regional cuisine will be offered throughout. Folk music ensembles will play all day, and the children's program will complement the offerings from 12:00 PM onwards.
