Neighborhood festival for all generations in Bremen-Blumenthal
When Schillerplatz in Bremen-Blumenthal becomes a festival ground, neighbors of all generations meet. The Blumenthaler Sommerfest is themed 'Celebrating together in the neighborhood' and sees itself as an accessible meeting point: Participate instead of just watching.
From afternoon until early evening, there are creative and sporting activities that can be tried out for free or for a donation — from a rope course and craft stations to a bouncy castle. Children's choirs, dance groups, and bands from the neighborhood perform on stage. Institutions such as the KuFZ Wasserturm, the Waldorf School Bremen-Nord, and the library participate. This creates a dense, cross-generational program with something for every age.
The summer festival is organized by the Blumenthal Neighborhood Management and the Documentation and Cultural Center (DOKU) Blumenthal in cooperation with the Blumenthal Working Group. DOKU is located directly on Schillerplatz and preserves the history of the neighborhood with its local archive. The festival thrives on the commitment of numerous initiatives that present themselves on the square and make the neighborhood visible.
Blumenthal is a diverse district in the far north of the state of Bremen. From a small farming and fishing village, it became an important industrial location starting in 1883 due to the Bremer Woll-Kämmerei (BWK) — the factory shaped the town for over 120 years, built schools, churches, and a hospital, and brought the first street lighting to the district in 1895. With the end of raw wool processing in 2009, a 125-year era came to an end. Today, Blumenthal is characterized by this industrial history and active neighborhood work. The summer festival strengthens cohesion and makes the social and cultural life of the district tangible on a summer day.
For the 2026 edition, Schillerplatz will be transformed into a festival ground on June 13 from 2 PM to 6 PM. Children and adults can try creative and movement-oriented activities for free or for a donation. In addition, there will be concerts, dance performances, and other acts from the neighborhood. The organizers are the Blumenthal Neighborhood Management and DOKU Blumenthal in cooperation with the Blumenthal Working Group.
Under the motto Celebrating together in the neighborhood, Schillerplatz will be transformed into a festival ground for four hours. Organized by the Blumenthal Neighborhood Management and DOKU Blumenthal in cooperation with the Blumenthal Working Group.
The detailed program for 2026 with individual acts and activities will be announced shortly before the festival via the Neighborhood Management and DOKU Blumenthal.
