About Open Cellars Graach

Over the Whitsun weekend, the vintners of Graach and Schäferei open their cellars and courtyards, inviting visitors to taste the current vintages. The highlight is the guided wine hike on Saturday at 10:30 AM along the "Graacher Eselspädchen" (Graach Donkey Trail), where ten wine tastings from six wineries are served on a scenic route through the steep Middle Mosel slopes. On the following days, visitors can decide for themselves which courtyards to visit – a relaxed format for wine connoisseurs and the curious.

Whitsun in the Graach Steep Slopes

Whitsun is traditionally the time in the Mosel region when vintners open their cellars. The Open Cellar Days in Graach are among the classic Whitsun events of the Middle Mosel and offer the opportunity to taste the current vintages directly at their place of origin. The slopes above Graach are considered one of the best Riesling growing areas in Germany.

The Graacher Eselspädchen

The guided wine hike on Saturday begins at 10:30 AM and leads along the historic "Graacher Eselspädchen," a narrow vineyard path once used by pack animals. During the approximately two-hour hike, six wineries present ten tastings – from dry Kabinetts and Spätlesen to fruity-sweet Auslesen from the "Graacher Himmelreich" and "Graacher Domprobst" vineyards. The hike combines physical activity, wine culture, and a panoramic experience.

Open Courtyards for Three Days

On the other days, visitors decide for themselves which of the participating courtyards they wish to visit. The open atmosphere allows for direct conversations with the vintners, insights into the cellars, and tastings in a relaxed setting. Food is also offered at many courtyards.

Arrival by Train and Boat

Graach is accessible by bus from Bernkastel-Kues and by Mosel passenger ship. Arrival by public transport is recommended due to the tastings.
