Whisky Enjoyment in a Historic Moated Castle

The moated castle Mellenthin on the island of Usedom in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district is one of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's most unusual overnight accommodations: a moated castle ensemble from the Renaissance with its own in-house brewery, bakehouse, and distillery. The Whisky Weekend uses this setting to bring together whisky lovers and beginners.

Course of the Weekend

The package includes two nights' accommodation with breakfast buffet, a kitchen party on Friday evening with brewery specialties, and an exclusive six-course whisky menu on Saturday. Included: tours of the malting floor and barrel storage, free access to the castle's own wellness area. Each course is paired with a corresponding whisky.

Distillery, Brewery, Bakehouse

The castle operates its own in-house brewery, a brick oven, and collaborates with selected distilleries. During the Whisky Weekend, experts present whiskys from Scotland, Ireland, and also German distilleries, and guide the tasting. Those interested can visit the malting floor – one of the few original, functioning malting floors in Northern Germany.

Season on Usedom

February is off-season on Usedom – ideal for being in one of Pomerania's most beautiful castle complexes without mass tourism. The Whisky Weekend traditionally falls on the last weekend of February and extends into March. Those who wish can combine their stay with walks along Lake Kachlin, a visit to the imperial spas Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, and Bansin, or with curiosities like the Three Emperors' Spas promenade.

Getting There

Take the UBB (Usedomer Bäderbahn) from Züssow to Stolpe, then take a bus or taxi to Mellenthin. By car via the B111 / B110.
