Ringreiten — Dithmarschen's Equestrian Tradition
Ringreiten is a typical North German-Dithmarschen custom: riders gallop on a straight track and try to spear a small metal ring, hung above the track, with a long pole. Whoever has collected the most rings at the end is crowned King or Queen — an honor that is taken very seriously in the Dithmarschen riding clubs.
The Ringreiter- und Schützenverein Elpersbüttel
The Ringreiter- und Schützenverein Elpersbüttel combines the two classic North German sporting traditions — shooting and Ringreiten. At the annual Schützenfest, both disciplines are practiced, and the King and Queen are bid farewell or newly crowned in a festive ceremony.

Elpersbüttel is a small municipality in the Dithmarschen district, about 8 km west of Meldorf, in the middle of the Dithmarschen marshland. Like many marsh communities, it has maintained its tradition of the Schützenfest — a festival that, in its combination of sport, club life, and conviviality, is a typical example of the dense voluntary commitment on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein.

By car via B5 Westküstenstraße, then L139 towards Elpersbüttel. Meldorf train station with bus connection (approx. 15 min.).
Admission
Games on the school sports field and the farewell of the King and Queen are free to the public. Festball in the Jägersburg is usually with admission for club members and guests — tickets via the club.
