One Night, 53 Venues
Since 2000, the Long Night of Museums has been Hamburg's largest cultural showcase. On a Saturday in April, over 50 museums across the Hanseatic city open their doors from 6 PM to 1 AM – with a single ticket, you get access to all venues, plus free HVV travel within zones A-F and special buses between districts.
From Major Museums to District Collections
The range is extraordinary: Hamburger Kunsthalle, International Maritime Museum, MARKK, Museum of Hamburg History, BallinStadt Emigration Museum, Museum of Labour, Altona Museum – plus smaller and highly specialized venues like the Embassy of Wildlife or Urbaneo – Young Architecture Centre (new HafenCity locations from 2026). If you start at the Eilbeker Kleinmuseum, you can later land at the Bucerius Kunst Forum and finish the late night at the Museum of Labour in Barmbek.
Over 500 Special Events
Instead of just "extended opening hours," there are guided tours, workshops, lectures, performances, concerts, demonstrations, and hands-on activities – over 500 program points are announced. The Kulturpunkte app allows you to plan your own route, including times, routes, and reservations.
Inclusion in the Program
The event emphasizes accessibility: guided tours in German Sign Language, events in English and other languages, specialized tours for visually impaired and sighted visitors. This positions the Long Night as one of Hamburg's most inclusive major events.
Mobility Across Districts
The ticket includes HVV travel within zones A-F – covering the entire greater Hamburg area, including Pinneberg, Stade, and Norderstedt. Additionally, special buses run between important hubs, and launches connect the harbor museums. This allows you to travel between 6 or 7 museums without a car.
