17 concert evenings on a floating stage at Würzburg's Old Harbour
The Hafensommer Würzburg is a festival with a unique setting: the stage is floating, located in the Alten Hafen (Old Harbour), the former industrial harbour on the Main River. The audience sits on a grandstand on the bank, with the early 20th-century brick warehouses behind them, the floating stage in view, and the vineyards of the Lengfeld ridge beyond. A festival backdrop that is unique in Germany.
Over nearly three weeks, 17 concert evenings are spread out. The Hafensommer deliberately does not focus on a single genre – quite the opposite: the stylistic diversity is precisely its hallmark. The 2026 lineup includes:
The festival is organized by the Würzburg event team in collaboration with Bayerischer Rundfunk – specifically Bayern 2, the cultural and spoken-word program of BR. The close ties to Bayern 2 are reflected in the festival's content aspirations: sophisticated concert formats, journalistically accompanied, beyond the mainstream.
Those wishing to attend multiple concerts can purchase a Festival Card for €198 (early bird price), granting access to all 17 evenings. Individual tickets range from €15 to €45 depending on the artist. One concert evening – Young Harbor on July 28 – is free in 2026.
Würzburg, an independent city with around 130,000 inhabitants in Lower Franconia, is a university city, a bishop's seat, and a wine metropolis. Its location on the Main River makes the Old Harbour a natural summer event venue: during the Hafensommer weeks, students, tourists, and local Würzburg residents gather on the grandstand, settling on the steps, bringing picnics – the festival has the status of an urban summer ritual.
For years, Hafensommer has focused on sustainable event concepts (reusable cups, local suppliers) and accessible entrances: wheelchair spaces are reserved, and selected concerts are accompanied by sign language interpreters.
The 2026 edition covers the full stylistic spectrum for which Hafensommer is known. With Max Mutzke, Selig, Gogol Bordello, and Afrob & Ferris MC, four crowd-pleasing acts are on the program; alongside them, world music and jazz programs with Sona Jobarteh, Charles Pasi, Mica Millar, and Jowee Omicil; and German-language indie and singer-songwriter voices with Esther Graf, CATT, and Marlo Grosshardt.
Two Family Sundays interrupt the evening program with afternoon family formats: Dennis & Jesko Band (July 26, 1:00 PM) and Esther Graf (Aug 2, 6:30 PM) offer children's/family programs at reduced prices. Admission is free for young people at the concert on July 28 (Young Harbor by Sparda).
