Homeland and marksmen's festival of the Linner Schützenverein 1388
The Linner Schützenverein 1388 e.V. is one of the oldest marksmen's associations in the Rhineland — the club's history dates back to the late Middle Ages. Its most important annual festival, the Linner Burg-, Trachten- and Heimatfest, will take place from August 7 to 10, 2026. For four days, marksmen's parades, king's shooting, the festival tent, and the homeland program will shape the image of the Krefeld district of Linn — a historic settlement west of Krefeld's city center.
Linn Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval moated castles in the Rhineland. The Lower Rhine Landscape Museum is now housed there, and the historic town center around the castle is a protected monument. The homeland festival uses this backdrop with marksmen's parades along the historic alleys, a festival tent near the castle, and a homeland and traditional costume program in the squares.
The Linner Schützenverein 1388 e.V. cultivates the Rhenish marksmen's and homeland tradition. The program includes king's shooting, the grand parade on Sunday (typically August 9, 2026), club evening, homeland evening, and the traditional king's ball. Traditional costume groups from Linn and neighboring associations march along; the homeland and costume element gives the festival its specific profile beyond a pure marksmen's festival.
A festival tent is set up on the festival grounds near the castle, hosting the main events — opening dance, king's proclamation, king's ball, homeland evening. In addition, there are catering stands, funfair attractions, and homeland sales booths run by the associations. The city of Krefeld and the Krefeld-Linn district support the festival with representatives.
Krefeld-Linn is located about 8 km east of Krefeld's city center on the Rhine-Ruhr port. The former independent municipality of Linn was incorporated in 1929 but has retained its historic town center and identity. With Linn Castle, the Lower Rhine Landscape Museum, and the Flax Market — a second major event around the castle in May — Linn is one of Krefeld's most culturally active districts.
