Three-day family and neighborhood festival in western Cologne – Karl-Schwering-Platz becomes a culinary, creative, and musical stage for Lindenthal
Cologne-Lindenthal is located west of the city center, between the Stadtwald (city forest) and the Aachener Weiher. With over 50,000 inhabitants, Lindenthal is a classic, bourgeois inner-city neighborhood (Veedel) – characterized by Gründerzeit and Art Nouveau architecture, the Stadtwald as its green lung, and an active civic culture. The annual family and neighborhood festival at Karl-Schwering-Platz – right in the middle of the district between Aachener Straße, Dürener Straße, and the university – is a meeting point for the Lindenthal community.
The neighborhood festival focuses on what defines the district: bourgeois conviviality, regional delights, and a diverse program for all generations.
Unlike the large Schützenfeste (marksmen's festivals) in the Rhineland suburbs or the Karneval (Carnival) events in the old town, the Lindenthaler Veedelsfest consciously opts for a quieter, more upscale atmosphere. Wine instead of beer (or alongside), board game tables instead of Schlager music stages, strolls with strollers instead of dance parties: the festival reflects Lindenthal's bourgeois identity and represents a particular urban lifestyle in a city otherwise dominated by Karneval.
Cologne is officially divided into 86 districts – Cologne residents call them "Veedel". Each Veedel cultivates its own identity, has its own civic associations, and celebrates its own district festival. Lindenthal, with Karl-Schwering-Platz, Aachener Straße, and the Stadtwald, is one of the geographically and socially upscale Veedel in western Cologne – and its family and neighborhood festival is an expression of this special Veedel identity.
The 2026 edition will once again use Karl-Schwering-Platz and its immediate surroundings as the festival grounds. The Lindenthal civic associations coordinate the program together with the Cologne Cultural Office and KölnTourismus. The focus is on the local gastronomic offerings, the Lindenthal wine stalls, and the family program – including activities from the adjacent shops on the Sunday opening for shopping.
Free admission. Food and drinks payable at the stalls.
Take the Stadtbahn tram lines 7 (Aachener Straße) or 13 (Lindenthal) to the Lindenthal stop, then a few minutes' walk to Karl-Schwering-Platz. By car, take the A1 (exit Köln-West) or A4, then use city center parking garages.
Admission is free on all three days.
Friday evening to Sunday evening. Exact schedules with stage programs will be published at the start of the event on koelntourismus.de and verliebtinkoeln.com.
