One of Cologne's most successful street festivals with around 250,000 visitors
Sülz and Klettenberg are among the most densely populated districts in southern Cologne, with a distinct neighborhood identity. The Carréefest, organized by the Sülz Klettenberg Carré interest group (ISK Carré Sülz Klettenberg e.V.), is their annual highlight. From Saturday morning to Sunday evening, it regularly draws around 250,000 people to the district — more than half the population of Cologne-Sülz, making the Carréefest one of the city's largest district festivals.
The festival mile stretches along Berrenrather Straße, one of the central arteries between Sülz and Klettenberg, past Nikolausplatz. Two stages — one in the Sülz section, one in the Klettenberg section — provide entertainment throughout the weekend with live music, local bands, and DJ sets. In between, over 70 vendors, restaurateurs, and associations set up their stalls.
On Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM, all shops on Berrenrather Straße and the side streets open — the traditional open shopping Sunday that has accompanied the Carréefest for years. For many families from the neighborhood and the neighboring districts of Lindenthal, Hahnenstraßenviertel, and the Südstadt, the date is a firm fixture in the annual calendar.
The Sülz Klettenberg Carré interest group (ISK Carré Sülz Klettenberg e.V.) (formerly the Carré Business Association) unites retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers from both districts. It is the driving force behind the Carréefest and several other events throughout the year — Spring Festival, Advent Festival, Street Food Sundays. The Carréefest is their flagship event.
Sülz and Klettenberg are located between Cologne's city center, Lindenthal, and the Stadtwald (city forest). Wilhelminian-era architecture, a bourgeois-green character, with university connections and a creative-bourgeois population. During the Carréefest, the two neighborhoods merge into a single festival mile — neighborhood boundaries are dissolved for a weekend.
The Sülz Klettenberg Carré interest group (ISK Carré Sülz Klettenberg e.V.) invites you to the annual Carréefest from September 5th to 6th, 2026. Berrenrather Straße and the area around Nikolausplatz will become a festival mile with over 70 stalls — featuring vendors, restaurateurs, associations, and initiatives from the neighborhood.
Two stages will provide entertainment throughout the weekend. The main stage in the Sülz section and the second stage in the Klettenberg section will host live music, local bands, and DJ sets. On Sunday, from 1 PM to 6 PM, shops will participate in the open shopping day.
