Neighborhood festival on Berrenrather Straße in Köln-Sülz with live entertainment, culinary delights, and Sunday shopping
Köln-Sülz and Klettenberg are two of the most vibrant residential districts in southern Cologne — well-maintained Wilhelminian-era architecture, diverse gastronomy, a young crowd, families, and students from the nearby University of Cologne. Berrenrather Straße is the central axis between the two neighborhoods. Once a year, this community celebrates itself — with Bunt im Carrée, the two-day street festival organized for years by the Carrée Sülz-Klettenberg business association.
On several stages, live acts in various genres will perform throughout both days. For Saturday, April 25th: at 2:30 PM, Jazz with the trio Löffler | Städter | Tressin, followed by Indie and Electronic acts. On Sunday, April 26th: the Perfect Day Choir, Pop acts, and in the evening from 7:30 PM onwards, House music until the end. DJ sets will rotate throughout the day — House and Electronic.
A dedicated Kids Area offers family entertainment: bungee jumping with a safety setup, introductory karate classes with the Karate Fachsportschule Sülz, and storytelling sessions for children on Sundays. The Kids Area is one of the festival's hallmarks — Bunt im Carrée consciously positions itself as a family-friendly neighborhood festival, not just an adult party.
The festival emphasizes sustainability: food stalls are cashless (card payment only), plastic-free initiatives are highlighted, and reusable cups are used for mulled wine and drinks. The organized bus rerouting of lines 130 and 131 underscores the street's closure for the festival days.
On Sunday, April 26th, open Sunday shopping accompanies the festival — shops between Sülzburgstraße and Nikolausplatz will be open on Sunday afternoon. This turns the festival weekend into an activation of local retail — a deliberately integrated concept of building goodwill and promoting the local economy in the neighborhood.
Sülz and Klettenberg belong to the Lindenthal borough — south of the city center, near the university, with approximately 40,000 and 27,000 inhabitants respectively. The neighborhoods are considered affluent, lively, with a distinct café culture and many small owner-operated shops. Bunt im Carrée leverages this neighborhood identity and makes it visible for a weekend.
The neighborhood festival on the last weekend of April continues the proven concept. Organized by the Carrée Sülz-Klettenberg business association with local gastronomy and retailers. Detailed lineup and program updates on Instagram @buntimcarree.
