Demokratiefest Landau

A Civic Festival for Democracy

The Landau Demokratiefest has established itself as an annual civic festival that puts democratic values at its center. Under the motto 'Living Democracy – Shaping Together,' the City of Landau, the association Engagement Landau, and the General Student Committee (AStA) of RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau invite you to a day-long program in the city center. For one day, the town hall square and several other locations will host action stands, interactive formats, and opportunities for encounters between citizens, politicians, administration, civil society, and academia.

Program and Interactive Formats

The program includes discussion rounds with representatives from politics, administration, and academia, workshops on topics such as political education, media literacy, and volunteerism, simulation games on democracy, exhibitions on the city's history, and city tours focusing on places of democratic history in Landau. Numerous associations, initiatives, and non-profit organizations will present their work. Additionally, there will be cultural contributions – live music, readings, and performances.

Diversity of Participants

Participants include, among others, political education providers, the city library, the adult education center, schools, the university, local associations, welfare organizations, initiatives against racism and for integration, political parties, youth representatives, and church groups. Thus, the Demokratiefest covers the entire spectrum of civil engagement in Landau.

Target Audience and Atmosphere

The Demokratiefest is aimed at all age groups. Families will find a children's program, young people interactive participatory activities, and adults more in-depth discussion formats. The atmosphere is open, friendly, and oriented towards dialogue. Democracy should be experienced – not as an abstract concept, but as a lived practice on site.
