Traditional town festival around the lime trees at the Rathausplatz — last weekend in August
When the lime trees on the Rathausplatz spread their dense crowns over the tables at the end of August, the traditional Lindenfest begins in Niederstotzingen. For over four decades, local clubs have organized this summer festival together with the town, which has become an indispensable part of the event calendar of this small town in the southern district of Heidenheim. You'll find a festival here that embodies genuine club life — not a large-scale event, but a classic Swabian local festival with charm.
The venue is the Rathausplatz in the middle of Niederstotzingen's historic town center. The striking town hall, the lime trees, and the surrounding burgher houses form a cohesive backdrop that gives the festival its name. Tables and benches are lined up under the lime trees — in mild late summer weather, guests often sit outside until after midnight. The stage is traditionally set up on the north side of the square, so that the lights of the town hall form the background.
The traditional keg tapping by the mayor at around 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon kicks things off. Afterwards, the Niederstotzingen Town Band takes the stage with a concert of march and entertainment music. In the evening, dance bands or cover bands follow, keeping the audience entertained until late into the night. Sunday starts with a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) concert, often with brass music again, followed by a relaxed daytime program. The local clubs are responsible for catering: You can get Swabian specialties such as lentils with Spätzle and 'Saitenwürstle' (sausages), hearty grilled platters, fries, coffee and cake, as well as freshly tapped beer from Schlossbrauerei Autenried, the festival's regional brewery partner.
The Lindenfest is not organized by a single festival operator, but is supported by the local clubs — the music association, sports clubs, fire department, and traditional costume and heritage association work hand in hand. The proceeds go into the club treasuries and finance youth work and purchases for the entire year. For you as a visitor, this means: genuine Swabian club culture, fair prices, and hosts who personally serve you at the counter. If you come for several years in a row, you'll eventually recognize the faces — that's what makes this festival so special.
The small town of Niederstotzingen is located in the southern district of Heidenheim, on the border between the Swabian Jura and the Donauried. It is regionally known primarily for the Alemannic Rider's Grave from the 6th century — one of the most important archaeological finds in southern Germany. With around 4,800 inhabitants, Niederstotzingen has retained its small-town character. The Lindenfest fits perfectly with this atmosphere: manageable, cordial, and very Swabian.
The Lindenfest 2026 in Niederstotzingen will follow the proven concept of previous years. The Rathausplatz will again be equipped with a stage, festival tent, beer benches, and stalls. The ceremonial opening is the mayor's keg tapping on Saturday afternoon, followed by a stage program with the Niederstotzingen Town Band and a live band in the evening.
Sunday traditionally starts in Swabian style with a 'Frühschoppen' concert. The clubs will cater the square with Swabian specialties — Maultaschen, lentils with Spätzle, Saitenwürstle, fries, cake — and with freshly tapped beer from Schlossbrauerei Autenried, the traditional brewery partner.
The exact date for 2026 will be published in the summer in the official gazette of the town of Niederstotzingen. If you look at the pattern of previous years (2024: August 24–25), you can plan for the last weekend of August.
Free admission. Food and drinks at club prices — Maß (liter) of beer approx. €4.50, Saitenwürstle with bread approx. €4, cake €2.50.
