150 Years Sontheim Fire Brigade — Anniversary Festival and District Fire Brigade Day 2026

In May 2026, the Sontheim an der Brenz Volunteer Fire Brigade will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The jubilee is not just an internal ceremony but will be celebrated with the entire population of the Heidenheim district and the surrounding region — coupled with the 2026 District Fire Brigade Day, where all fire brigades of the district will gather in Sontheim. Over five days, the FFW offers a varied program of rock music, traditions, Ascension Day festival, blue light party, and a festive ceremony.

Wednesday 13.05.2026 — Rock Night with SCHREYNER

The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a Rock Night featuring SCHREYNER — seven musicians who have been performing hard rock and metal classics from the 1980s to the 2000s for years. A true party band for everyone who wants to hear AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, and Metallica live. Festival tent at the fire station, doors open in the evening, advance tickets via Eventim-Light recommended.

Thursday 14.05.2026 — Ascension Day and Ox Roast

On Ascension Day (Father's Day), Ox Roast will be served starting in the morning — a whole ox will be roasted over an open fire and sold in portions to guests. Accompanied by an ecumenical festival service, a morning pint with brass band music, and live music throughout the day. Family-friendly and a classic festive day of Swabian-Brenzian tradition.

Friday 15.05.2026 — Blue Light Party

On Friday evening, the Blue Light Party follows — a party for emergency responders (fire brigade, ambulance service, THW, police) and everyone who wants to celebrate with them. DJ, bar, and tent atmosphere. A tradition at many fire brigade festivals, celebrating with friendly brigades and aid organizations.

Saturday 16.05.2026 — Festival Evening with ROCKSPITZ

The highlight for many festival-goers: ROCKSPITZ, the well-known Alpine Rock party band, regularly performing at the Europa-Park Oktoberfest and major festivals in Southern Germany. A mix of modern rock covers and Alpine folk-rock — a guaranteed party. The festival tent will be in full swing on Saturday evening, advance tickets recommended.

Sunday 17.05.2026 — District Fire Brigade Day and Ceremony

The 2026 District Fire Brigade Day takes place on Sunday in Sontheim. Program: Grand entry of the district's fire brigades, ecumenical festival service, ceremony with speeches by the mayor, district administrator, and district fire chief, a large parade through Sontheim — led by the Sontheim brigade, followed by the brigades from the entire district with historical and modern vehicles. The event concludes with a festive Tattoo at the festival grounds.

Sontheim and the Brenz Valley

The municipality of Sontheim an der Brenz, with around 5,700 inhabitants, is located in the southern Heidenheim district, on the Brenz river, at the transition from the Swabian Jura to the Donauried. It is famous for the 16th-century Renaissance Castle Sontheim and for the Brenz, one of the cleanest rivers in Southern Germany. The Sontheim Fire Brigade, founded in 1876, is one of the most traditional brigades in the region.
