Bochum's liveliest district celebrates

The Lindener Meile is the annual summer highlight in Bochum's Linden district – one of the liveliest and, in a positive sense, "gentrified" neighborhoods in southern Bochum. Three days of festivities with a clear concept: a closed-off Hattinger Straße, stages, market stalls, a beer garden, food trucks, and a comprehensive program for children. The organizer is the "Linden bewegt" business association, which drives the district's marketing.

Date 2026: August 28–30

The Lindener Meile 2026 runs from Friday, August 28th, to Sunday, August 30th, 2026. Program highlights:

• Friday: Opening in the late afternoon, first stage program, evening beer garden atmosphere
• Saturday: Main market day with craft and art stalls, full-day stage program
• Sunday: Family day with Sunday shopping from 1 PM to 6 PM

Art and Craft Market

Artisans and designers present their work along Hattinger Straße:

• Handmade jewelry
• Glass and ceramic works
• Wood carvings and turnings
• Textile, leather, and felt art
• Paintings, prints, illustrations
• Natural cosmetics and soaps

The selection is of an above-average standard – Linden attracts an art-interested clientele, which is reflected in the exhibition offerings.

Beer Garden with Live Stage

The business association sets up a beer garden with a live stage in the center of the festival mile:

• Bochum breweries (Fiege, regional private breweries)
• Live bands from Bochum and the Ruhr area (Indie, Rock, Soul, Funk)
• DJ sets in the evening
• Bistro high-top tables and beer garden benches

Food Trucks and Culinary Diversity

Instead of classic festival food stalls, the Lindener Meile focuses on food trucks offering diverse cuisines:

• Burgers and BBQ
• Tacos and Mexican specialties
• Vegetarian and vegan bowls
• Crêpes and sweets
• Bochum's classic fries
• Asian street food

Children's Program

There is a dedicated zone with a children's program for families:

• Bouncy castle
• Face painting
• Interactive stations (crafting, painting, music)
• Small carousel
• Play bus or craft workshops depending on the year

Sunday Shopping

On Sunday, August 30th, Linden's shops will also be open from 1 PM to 6 PM. Most bookstores, boutiques, cafés, and concept stores along Hattinger Straße participate. It is one of Bochum's few Sunday shopping events of the season.

Linden – Bochum's relaxed south

The Linden district has around 21,000 inhabitants and is located in southern Bochum. Known for its younger, more art-savvy population, numerous cafés, small galleries, and concept stores along Hattinger Straße, Linden is considered Bochum's "new hipster district" – without the hustle of the Bermuda3eck student quarter and without the anonymity of the southern suburbs. The Lindener Meile is an expression of this local identity.
