Six themed evening events from May to October on the Kirchplatz Liebfrauenkirche in the Bochum district of Linden
What has long been known as the "Feierabendmarkt" (after-work market) in Bochum's districts will officially be called Feierabendfeste (after-work festivals) in Linden in 2026 — a deliberate upgrade of the concept. The classic Thursday market with food and drink stands is evolving into a thematically curated Wednesday event with live music, seasonal relevance, and a district festival character that goes beyond a mere weekly market.
The series comprises six evening events in 2026, each on the first Wednesday of the month from May to October, consistently from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM:
Each date follows its own motto — exhibitors and program points will pick up on the theme in decoration, live music, and product selection.
The venue is the Catholic church square in front of the Liebfrauenkirche on Hattinger Straße in Bochum-Linden. This square has been the district's focal point for decades — weekly markets, neighborhood events, and church community festivals take place here. The Liebfrauenkirche itself (built in 1953) forms the architectural backdrop. The square is manageable in size — not a large spectacle, but a human-scaled format.
The organizer is Linden bewegt (Linden Moves), a district initiative that has been dedicated to local revitalization for years. Market events, cultural evenings, neighborhood alliances — Linden bewegt is the organizational backbone of the district. With the Feierabendfeste, the initiative is implementing a format that retains its market character (stands with regional products, crafts, food) on the one hand, and becomes a mini-district festival through its music program and thematic focus on the other.
Bochum-Linden is located in the south of the city, on the border with Hattingen, with about 21,000 inhabitants. Characterized by a mix of established structures (Linden has a distinctive village-like town center), new residential areas, and an active club landscape. Hattinger Straße, the main street, connects the district with Bochum city center and Hattingen. The church square at Liebfrauenkirche is the natural living room of the district — and that's exactly where the Feierabendfeste belong.
You enter the church square at 4:00 PM. Stands arranged in a U-shape, market offerings (cheese, sausage, bread, seasonal products) mixed with snacks (bratwurst, vegan options, sweets) and drinks (beer, wine, non-alcoholic options). A small stage — live music in a style fitting the season (acoustic in spring, summer pop in July, folk in autumn). You meet neighbors, chat with the stallholders, eat and drink outdoors. It all wraps up at 8:30 PM — an after-work format, after all.
2026 marks the first year under the new name "Feierabendfeste" — previously, the series was called Feierabendmarkt. The thematic focus with individual mottos for each date is the central program innovation: a regular market is transforming into a series of events with recognizable seasonal highlights.
Each event follows the same structure: stalls open at 4:00 PM, live music program between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, closing at 8:30 PM. The stage is small, the bands are local, and the audience primarily comes from the district and neighborhood. The events are designed as a "Wednesday break" after work — hence the time limit until 8:30 PM.
Organizer's note: "Subject to change due to various uncertainties" — check the latest status on linden-bewegt.de before each event.
Detailed program slots for each date (live music acts, special exhibitors, theme specifics) will be published in the weeks leading up to each Wednesday.
