Family funfair at Willi-Hopmann-Platz in front of the Liebfrauenkirche
When the carousels in the Bochum district of Linden start moving for the first time of the year around May 1st, it marks the start of the Kirmes season for the southern district of Bochum-Süd. From May 1st to 4th, 2026, the Frühjahrskirmes Linden will take place at Willi-Hopmann-Platz in front of the Liebfrauenkirche — four days of Volksfest atmosphere in the heart of the district.
Willi-Hopmann-Platz is located in the middle of Linden, on the central Hattinger Straße. The backdrop: the Liebfrauenkirche on one side, residential streets and retail on the other. The square and a section of Hattinger Straße will be closed for the Kirmes days; the rides and stalls will be arranged around the square.
The Frühjahrskirmes Linden is a classic family funfair — not a huge mega-Kirmes like the Cranger Kirmes or the Bochumer Maiabendkirmes, but a manageable, familiar Volksfest with a family atmosphere. On the program:
The district of Linden is located in the Bochum-Süd district, on the axis between Bochum-Mitte and Hattingen, on both sides of Hattinger Straße. With around 20,000 inhabitants, Linden is one of Bochum's largest districts — a well-established residential district with a distinct identity, its own retail structure, and several Volksfest and Kirmes events throughout the year. The Frühjahrskirmes is the first highlight of the district's season.
The independent city of Bochum, with around 365,000 inhabitants, is located in the center of the Ruhr area. Bochum Marketing GmbH, as the organizer, coordinates a dense network of district and city center festivals throughout the year — the Frühjahrskirmes Linden is one of the most traditional district Kirmes events on the calendar.
The 2026 edition follows the early May date of previous years. The classic family funfair atmosphere, compact size, and district integration make the Frühjahrskirmes Linden a must-visit for families from southern Bochum. Family Day on Monday is the most visitor-friendly day with discounts and special promotions.
Free admission. Rides and game stalls are subject to charge per ride/game.
Daily 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM (May 1st-4th, 2026). Opening on May 1st with a free ride special at 2:00 PM and official opening at 7:00 PM.
By tram: Line 308 or 318 to Bochum-Linden, stop Willi-Hopmann-Platz/Liebfrauenkirche. By car: A43, exit Bochum-Querenburg or Hattingen, then Hattinger Straße. Parking: in the residential streets around Linden (observe restrictions), or Park & Ride at Lohring (continue by tram).
Free admission, rides and game stalls are subject to charge (usual Kirmes prices per ride).
Family Day on Monday, May 4th, is the ideal time for families with small children: less crowded than the weekend, with discounts and special promotions for children. Come to the official opening on May 1st at 2:00 PM: all carousels will run for free for 15 minutes!
