The Middle Franconian Shooting Day is the annual association festival of the Middle Franconian Shooting Association and travels to a different shooting district each year. In 2026, the town of Gunzenhausen in the Hesselberg shooting district hosted the 73rd Middle Franconian Shooting Day. For several days, shooting clubs from all over Middle Franconia came together – with a festive gala event, a parade, ceremonial riflemen (Böllerschützen), and awards from the Bavarian Shooting Association (BSSB) and the German Shooting Association (DSB). The festival combines shooting tradition, customs, and conviviality, making the voluntary commitment of the Middle Franconian shooting clubs publicly visible.

The 73rd Middle Franconian Shooting Day took place from March 6 to 8, 2026, in Gunzenhausen, hosted by the Hesselberg shooting district. Featuring a gala event on Saturday (performance by Volker Heißmann), a parade with ceremonial riflemen on Sunday, and awards from the BSSB and DSB.

Getting There

Gunzenhausen is located in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district on the B13/B466, near the Altmühlsee lake. Arrive by train via Gunzenhausen station or by car.

The Association Festival of Middle Franconian Shooters

The Middle Franconian Shooting Day is the central event of the Middle Franconian Shooting Association. Every year, a different shooting district hosts it – in 2026, this task fell to the Hesselberg shooting district with the town of Gunzenhausen. The 73rd Shooting Day brought together shooting clubs from the entire Middle Franconia region.

Gala Event and Program

The social highlight was the gala event on Saturday evening, featuring, among others, the well-known Franconian comedian Volker Heißmann. A delegation from HSG Gunzenhausen participated.

Parade and Ceremonial Riflemen

On Sunday, the festive parade marched through Gunzenhausen, ending at the Stadthalle (town hall), where the participants were welcomed by the ceremonial riflemen (Böllerschützen). After the flag procession, the awards ceremony took place.

Awards and Tradition

During the Shooting Day, awards from the Bavarian Shooting Association (BSSB) and the German Shooting Association (DSB) were presented. For instance, Jens Zirkler, 1st Chairman of HSG, received the Bronze Medal of the District Shooting President. The Shooting Day thus preserves the shooting tradition as a living custom.
