Ökowerk Emden as a Nature Learning Site

The Ökowerk Emden is a nature experience and environmental education center on the outskirts of the East Frisian port city. On an area of approximately 6 hectares, themed gardens, a Pomarium with historical apple varieties, mixed orchards, a farm with animals, and wild bee observation areas are maintained. It is operated by the Stiftung Ökowerk Emden, which manages the site as an extracurricular learning location, event center, and recreational area.

Plant Market as a Spring Event

The annual plant market is one of the Ökowerk's most popular events. Market stalls offer a wide range of young plants, perennials, herbs, vegetable seedlings, heirloom tomato varieties, flower bulbs, and seeds. In addition, homemade goods (jams, syrups, honey, crafts) and organic products are available. The exhibitors are regional nurseries, hobby growers, beekeepers, and craftspeople.

Family Program and Pomarium

A miniature railway operates for families, taking children around the grounds. The farm animals can be visited, and the Pomarium is open during the apple blossom season, offering a special occasion for a spring walk. Culinary offerings (coffee and homemade cake, snacks, bratwurst, juices) cater to the visitors.

Visitor Record 2025

In 2025, the plant market recorded a visitor record with around 2,000 attendees. The 2026 event is expected to attract similar interest. Admission to the Ökowerk grounds is free during the plant market.
