Second Edition – More Than a Festival

Founded in 2025, LIMINALITIES is established as a unique, international, and interdisciplinary festival for Trans* visibility at Kampnagel. For four days – from April 23rd to 26th, 2026 – Hamburg's largest production house for independent performing arts in the Winterhude district will transform into a platform for artistic practice dedicated to the diverse realities of trans*, inter, and non-binary lives.

Voices from Four Continents

The 2026 program brings together artists whose work oscillates between performance, theatre, visual arts, dance, and activism:

  • Simone Aughterlony (Zurich) with the performance "Hand Job"
  • Ocean Stefan (Margate) with "Blood Show"
  • Emma Frankland (Birmingham) with "No Apologies"
  • Cassils (New York) with "Incontrovertible Being"
  • Beth Stephens & Annie Sprinkle with the film "Playing with Fire – An Ecosexual Emergency"

TRANSTRONICA – The Festival within the Festival

Embedded within LIMINALITIES is TRANSTRONICA: an all-Trans* music festival curated by Saeleen Bouvar, dedicating the stage exclusively to trans* musicians, DJs, and producers. The club segment complements the more concert-like and performative parts of the festival, underscoring its interdisciplinary ambition.

Artistic Freedom as a Democratic Promise

The organizers explicitly position the festival as a response to the global pressure on trans*, inter, and non-binary lives – a response through art that creates spaces where societal structures can be rethought. "Critical art is essential for a democratic society," states the program group.

Kampnagel as the Festival Venue

Kampnagel in Hamburg's Winterhude district (Hamburg-Nord borough) is one of Europe's largest international production houses. Evolving from a former machine factory, the site offers six halls and several outdoor areas – ideal for a festival that conceives in multiple formats simultaneously. Tickets are available via Kampnagel ticketing.
