Three days of hiking experience in the Palatinate Forest around Pirmasens
Pirmasens and the surrounding Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve offer an exceptionally dense network of trails for hikers. The city leverages this advantageous location and markets hiking as one of its main tourist themes. The Pirminius Hiking and Experience Days are the shoe city's major hiking festival, bringing together hiking enthusiasts from the region twice a year - in spring and autumn.
The April 2026 edition is spread over three days. The kick-off on Friday, April 24th, is an inclusive hiking tour: the barrier-free high-altitude tour leads up the 448m high Arius, is only 1 km long, and thus also suitable for wheelchair users and families with strollers. This inclusive program design is a hallmark of the Pirminius Hiking Days.
On Sunday, April 26th, the 'step by step' tour challenges the athletically ambitious participants. With around 2,000 steps and a route length of 19 km, it demands stamina and sure-footedness. The numerous stairs along the route - many of them historically carved into the sandstone - are a characteristic feature of the hiking trails in the Palatinate Forest around Pirmasens.
The tours require registration, which can be done via email to [email protected]. The City Marketing and Tourism Department of Pirmasens coordinates the program and ensures that the tours are accompanied by experienced hiking guides. Safety, nature conservation, and the experience factor are balanced.
The 2026 edition continues the concept of a hiking weekend with tours of varying difficulty levels. Inclusive offerings, sporting challenges, and relaxed nature experiences are the three pillars of the program.
The exact program for 2026 with further tours, meeting points, and registration details will be published by the City of Pirmasens in spring.
Detailed tour descriptions, difficulty levels, and meeting points will be communicated via [email protected] and the city's website.
