Brandenburg-outpost of the Berlin Festival of Lights — „Colours of Love“
The Festival of Lights Berlin is one of the largest light art festivals in the world, attracting over two million visitors to Berlin every autumn. From October 9th to 18th, 2026, the festival celebrates its 22nd edition under the motto „Colours of Love“. A special feature of this edition: there are several outdoor locations outside of Berlin. One of them is Brandenburg an der Havel — more precisely: the Burghof am Dom.
The Brandenburg outdoor location is part of the 5th anniversary of the Hotel Brandenburger Dom, located in the courtyard next to the medieval cathedral. The hotel is a partner of the Festival of Lights and brings international light artists to Brandenburg an der Havel. For a week, the historic courtyard transforms into an open-air light art gallery.
The Burghof am Dom is one of the most beautiful backdrops in the city: medieval brick walls, the towering Brandenburg Cathedral St. Peter and Paul (12th century) behind it, and the Hotel Brandenburger Dom as a contemporary counterpart. Artists project their installations onto this architecture — colors, patterns, short film sequences — all inspired by the motto „Colours of Love“. You stroll through the courtyard, sit on a bench, and let the images wash over you.
The motto „Colours of Love“ connects all festival locations in 2026 — from Bebelplatz and Potsdamer Platz in Berlin to Brandenburg an der Havel. The organizers describe the vision as follows: „With our productions, we want to touch people. Light guides us, awakens our emotions, enchants our senses.“ A message that finds a particularly intimate form in the Brandenburg courtyard — smaller than the grand stages of Berlin, but more concentrated, quieter, and a highlight of the autumn for lovers of architecture and light.
Those spending a day or weekend in Brandenburg can combine the Light Art Week with the classic sights: Brandenburg Cathedral, the Old Town with the Millennium Bridge, the three city islands in the water, the Industrial Museum. You can stay directly at the Hotel Brandenburger Dom — but bookings fill up quickly during the Light Art Week.
The Lichtkunstwoche Burghof 2026 takes place from October 11th to 18th — for a week, the courtyard at the Brandenburg Cathedral will transform into an open-air gallery. The organizer is the Hotel Brandenburger Dom in cooperation with the Festival of Lights Berlin. The occasion is the hotel's 5th anniversary.
The motto „Colours of Love“ will be projected onto the historic walls — a declaration of love in light. The light installations by renowned international artists are specially designed for the courtyard and use the medieval architecture of the cathedral as a canvas.
