Lichtermarkt St. Lamberti — the market with the blue roofs
The Lichtermarkt at Lambertikirchplatz is one of five Christmas markets that together form the Münster Christmas Market — one of the most beautiful Christmas market constellations in Germany. From November 23 to December 22, 2026, around 30 wooden huts will transform the forecourt of St. Lamberti Church into an Advent experience landscape. Landmarks are the characteristic blue roofs and Münster's largest Christmas tree.
St. Lamberti — the landmark church
The St. Lamberti Church on Münster's Prinzipalmarkt is a late Gothic hall church from the 14th century — one of Westphalia's most important buildings. The famous cages of the Anabaptists (executed in 1535/36, cages preserved) hang on the tower. This historical backdrop makes the Lichtermarkt one of Münster's most atmospheric markets — the Gothic church in the background, blue hut roofs in the foreground, the giant fir tree next to it.

Lighting concept — the name says it all
The name "Lichtermarkt" (Light Market) is programmatic: the lighting has been converted to LED technology — energy-efficient and with better light effects. The blue roofs glow particularly beautifully in the early December darkness. Münster's largest Christmas tree in Lambertikirchplatz is the market's iconic photo motif.
Opening Hours
- Monday–Thursday and Sunday: 11:00 AM–8:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday: 11:00 AM–9:00 PM

Münster Christmas Market Constellation
The Münster Christmas Market consists of five individual markets that together allow for a stroll through the old town:
- Lichtermarkt St. Lamberti (this market)
- Giebelhüüskesmarkt
- Aegidiimarkt
- Kiepenkerlmarkt
- Market at Harsewinkelplatz
Münster has thus been voted "Christmas City No. 1 in Germany" several times.
Getting there and practical information
Münster is accessible by train from the Ruhr area (Dortmund, Recklinghausen) in approx. 30–45 minutes. From Münster Central Station, it's a 10–15 minute walk to Prinzipalmarkt. By car: City center parking garages (P+R recommended, as the old town area often gets congested). Münster, the cycling city — market visits can be perfectly combined with cycling.
