Over 150 play stations, character meet-and-greets, and fairy tale avenue in the half-timbered town
The organizers describe the festival as a "Hessentag for Children" – and the comparison fits: just like the major state festival, stages, stations, and themed worlds are spread throughout the entire town center. In Alsfeld, one of Hesse's most beautiful half-timbered towns on the eastern edge of the Vogelsberg district, the market square, Rittergasse, and pedestrian zone form the natural stage. Since 2024, "Leo feiert!" has been the only dedicated children's festival in the region and, in its third edition, is already an established family attraction.
The centerpiece is the over 150 free play stations, organized by clubs, craft businesses, educational institutions, and companies from Alsfeld and the surrounding area, spread across the entire town center. Themed zones such as Leo's Craft Mile (where children can try out crafts), the Fairy Tale Avenue, the Football Area, and creative hands-on workshops provide the structure. Professional associations and craft businesses are explicitly encouraged to introduce themselves to children in a playful way.
In 2026, well-known children's characters will visit again: Chase and Skye from PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star will be live in the town center for photos and encounters. The main stage will feature the FFH Just Kids Party with DJ Ikke Hüpfburg and Ricky Brause – Hesse's most famous radio station brings its children's program directly to Alsfeld.
For families traveling to the event, the town offers Leo's Storchennest – an official family campsite that allows for multi-day stays. This makes the festival attractive for overnight guests from across the country and neighboring countries.
The event is organized by the City of Alsfeld together with the city marketing association AlsAktiv e.V.. Registration for participating clubs and companies runs in the spring (for 2026, until April 19th). This participatory structure ensures that the festival is firmly anchored in Alsfeld's community.
The 2026 edition is the third of the children's festival established in 2024. The concept remains proven: over 150 play stations throughout the town center, themed zones, stage program, and character meet-and-greets. Registration for participating clubs and companies ran until April 19th, 2026 – the exact station mosaic will be published in the summer.
