Spring at Cottaweg

The Leipzig Spring Fair has been an integral part of Leipzig's spring for generations. From April 4 to May 17, 2026, the festival grounds at Cottaweg (in the north of Leipzig, on the border between the Möckern and Gohlis-Süd districts) will open its gates — six weeks of Volksfest, traditional family funfair, and a meeting place for Leipzig's showmen. This date, along with the autumn fair in late summer, marks the annual rhythm of the Cottaweg festival grounds.

Rides and Stalls

Each year, the spring edition features a mix of classic and modern rides. Always present: dodgems, a Ferris wheel with views over the Leipzig Auenwald forest area, a haunted house, a carousel, a swing ride, a mini-roller coaster for children, and several other carousels. In addition, there are game stalls, shooting ranges, throwing stalls, and the classic showman's trade of the region. Food stalls offer Bratwurst, fries, crêpes, almonds, gingerbread hearts, cotton candy, mulled wine, and Saxon beer.

Family Day, Ladies Night, and Fireworks

Several themed days structure the spring program. Every Wednesday is Family Day: 20% discount on all rides, plus children's entertainment and reduced food prices. On Fridays from 7 PM, Cottaweg transforms into a Ladies Night with 2 € rides for women on selected attractions. Several fireworks displays over the festival grounds characterize the weekends — dates are announced on the website of the Leipzig Showmen's Association. Admission to the fair is free; individual rides and stalls are paid for separately.

Getting There and Neighborhood

The festival grounds at Cottaweg are located between the districts of Möckern (east) and Gohlis-Süd (west) in the north of Leipzig, directly between the stadium and the Elster flood basin. By tram, it takes about 10 minutes from Leipzig Hbf (lines 3, 7, or 15, stop Sportforum or Stadion). By car: A 9 exit Schkeuditzer Kreuz, then B 6 towards Leipzig-Mitte. Parking at the festival grounds and in the surrounding area is scarce during the fair, especially on weekends — public transport is recommended.
