LautStark Bottrop — When Music Becomes Political
The LautStark Benefizfestival is one of the newest and, at the same time, most important political music formats in the Ruhr area. First edition in 2025, second edition on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM. Venue: Spielraum Bottrop, Prosperstraße 71. Under the motto „Together Against Hate and Incitement“, the LautStark collective brings together seven punk, rock, and crossover bands for a day of musical solidarity — with a clear political agenda and full donation forwarding to social projects.
The Seven Bands 2026
- Low Budget?
- Snake Pile
- Gainbombs
- König Kobra
- In Shards
- Old Sparky
- ONE_21_band
The bands play for heavily reduced or no fees — all proceeds go into the solidarity fund. Genre spectrum: German and English punk lyrics, rock crossover, hard riffs, and political messages. If you like the Ruhr punk spectrum, this is the place for you.
Mission — Anti-Fascist Music with Tradition
The self-understanding is unmistakable on the official platform: „LautStark sees itself not just as a music event, but as a clear statement against hate, incitement, and societal division.“ This places the festival in the tradition of the Ruhr area's anti-fascist punk culture — Bochum-Langendreer, Essen-Holsterhausen, Dortmund-Nord, and now Bottrop all have their own small festivals of this kind. The political statement is the program, not an add-on: tombola, speeches, and information stands highlight the connections between music and anti-discrimination engagement.
Beneficiaries 2026 — Two Social Projects
Werkstatt Solidarität Essen gGmbH
A youth support organization in Essen that offers voluntary, low-threshold support for young people from precarious backgrounds. Education, learning support, cultural participation — the workshop operates without significant public funding and is financed by donations and benefit events like LautStark.
Together Gelsenkirchen
An LGBTQ+ youth café in Gelsenkirchen that offers queer youth a safe space for exchange, counseling, and leisure. In the conservative, working-class-influenced northern Ruhr area, Together is one of the few queer offerings for those under 27. LautStark's proceeds go directly to the café's operation.
Family-Friendly Program
Despite its punk character, the festival is explicitly family-friendly: children under 12 have free admission, a bouncy castle is available, Pottgrill provides festival meals, and Mietzauber offers popcorn and sweets. This mix — political engagement, punk noise, and family atmosphere — is characteristic of the younger generation of the Ruhr's left-wing scene.
Accessible and Awareness
Spielraum Bottrop is wheelchair accessible. An awareness concept and safe space declaration are standard; discrimination is not tolerated. These provisions distinguish LautStark from older punk events — the younger generation has set the standards.
2025 Review and Outlook
The first edition in 2025 raised around €4,000 in donations for social projects. The LautStark collective plans to surpass this amount in 2026 — through more bands, a larger tombola, and stronger networking with other solidarity initiatives in the Ruhr area.
